The writer from Zodiac will be working on this. I didn't care for 3 too much, but hopefully this will be good if it gets off the ground.
So, villains? It's a shame Venom is out of the picture. :(

Cool, though I don't know how I would like it if they recast Peter.
And Venom may not be out just yet. There's always the possibility of them not doing this spin-off and using him for the next installments of the Spiderman franchise instead. I realize I'm desperately clinging onto some hope for him to return, though.
Also, it's going to suck to not have Harry in it, seeing as James Franco is awesome.

it's the cool thing to hate on 3 though because of that stupid dancing bit but 3 had the coolest villains thus far and some of the best choreography

Honestly, my only problems with 3 were Venom being tacked on at the end and "Dark" Parker. I enjoyed everything else I remember.

I guess I just have a hard time understanding what was so bad about it. I do agree that adding Venom on at the end just for the sake of having him was a bad move, and there was too much going on at once for them to be able to focus on everything to make it as good as it could have been, but I still didn't think it was awful. Definitely not Spiderman 2, but Spiderman 2 would be pretty hard to top in the franchise.

the characters did things that felt out of touch with the fully realized characters they were in spider-man 2 (which i liked a lot). harry's character is a blabbering idiot for most of the film and felt lazily written out of the equation, while the sandman, who was by far the most interesting villain of the film, doesn't get enough of the storyline and becomes boring because of it. venom would have been okay if not for the fact that topher grace isn't menacing, at all, and the special effects always seemed like the characters weren't really occupying space and most of the time it was really obviously green screen. the emotional moments of the film felt forced, the acting worse because of it, and it felt pretty much like a rush job which is weird considering it took three years to come out.
the movie was just lame, dancing/"emo" bit or not

1 and 2 are pretty even with me, I liked Doc Oc. Looking back, I wish they made Harry look more like Green Goblin; a more updated version of the Green Goblin his father was.

I do agree with this.

could they have chosen anyone more terrible at playing a villain

The Lizard is essential, they already have Professor Conners introduced, he has one of my favorite villain story-lines. Also Kraven would be pretty cool, especially if he killed Spiderman, that would be a twist.

I'll certainly see these and probably enjoy them.
Spiderman 1 is the only movie with a good villain so far. Doc Oc had no purpose, he just wanted to finish his science experiment. Sandman was an asshole and deserved to die. He was supposed to be driven by saving his daughter, but none of his actions really went towards it. He caused chaos and destruction only to be caught by Peter and then let go to do it some more because they looked at each other. Plus lack of "Dust in the Wind" at the end killed Spiderman 3. Venom could have been cool but was done so poorly.
First two movies were good with the 3rd being near unwatchable. I know it's a comic, but the most important part of it is how Peter copes with being a superhero and a broke shmo. The 3rd movie basically mocks it with him turning into emo dancing Peter and Harry knowing about him being spidey and kind of messing with him. The latter should never have happened because the butler, who doubles as a doctor, should have told Harry it wasn't Peter's fault.

Great.
Three was lame because the Venom plot and the Sandman plot didn't mesh at all, the acting was hammy and the characters poorly developed.
As for future villains, Carnage is a possibility since Peter chopped a bit off the symbiote for Dr Carnage to analyse.

A Carnage movie would be awesome, especially with an R rating.

3 was my favorite. It was honestly just Ultimate Spider-Man in movie form. Very fun and that's all.

3 sucked for many reasons...Bernard (harry's butler) was such obvious plot device and was quite stupid...it also killed the ending because harry needed to be told the truth to help peter, he wouldn't just accept it or do it because it was the right thing to do...and when bernard was talkin about obsession in S2 why didn't he throw out a "i looked at ur dad's wounds..it wasn't spider-man but himself" and with that thought, couldn't spidey hav picked up the glider and chucked it at norman thus killing him, nope impossible those tummy stab wounds could only come from norman pressing a button that made his glider fly into himself...that makes sense
Sandman had no purpose other than cool special fx...they didn't flesh him out enough at all and the actor who played him (name escapes me) was awful...then the ending with him blowing away was so over-the-top corney it was unbearable
Actually the whole ending was terrible...all the crying, the climax being the hero hitting poles with a pole, the more crying, the blowing away, the dancing, i was laughing pretty much uncontrollably at how much of a sap/stupid fest it had become by the end of the movie in the theater...and i thought 2 was bad
I don't even mind emo spidey...it's what a nerd like peter parker would think was cool/bad-*** so in context it makes some sense...i didn't even mind topher because at least they were going for a different take...a bizarro peter of sorts, it coulda worked had there not been 3 villains
Throw in the kids cheering at the end and the way too long pause of spidey in front of the cgi american flag (signal to the more stupid then normal audience spidey is the good guy again) and you have a piss-poor movie

I've always found the whole series weak. There are certain scenes that are amazing from a cinematic and technical perspecitve, but I found that characters were weak in the films themselves and I was relying on my understanding of the storylines from the comics when I was a kid, not based on the films. Put it this way; without my predetermined ideas, I think the films wouldn't work.

toby mcguire is too much peter parker and not enough spiderman
willfellmarsy
09-07-2008, 06:41 PM
That's the movie's fault more than toby's...in the first movie he delivered both the goofy spidey disses and the intense getting the **** kicked out of him spider-man...the writers just stopped writing spider-man as spider-man with him always being super serious

why would they ask Todd Mcfarlanes opinion on a venon spinoff when they ripped of the Mark Bagley design *Screams* for SM3 UGH!! why not ask him?
lets just ask Eric Larsons opinion on a carnage spinoff!!1:rolleyes: (faggits)
imo they destroyed venom, for good. Sam you fuvked up and let down the fans, now venom is some little 5'4" cry baby that speaks in 'I's' and not 'We's'
