Well, it seems that the past few years have been fun for MX fantasy hockey so I decided to get the league rolling!

http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey/12686 - league specific
http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey - Fantasy Hockey
League name - MX Fantasy Hockey
League password - mxforum
League unique url (?) - MX_Fantasy_Hockey
League ID - 12686

The draft isn't for a few weeks, so that you all would have some time to plan and such. It's Sun Sept. 21 at 10:00pm Eastern Standard Time, so the West Coast guys should be able to make it.

If you guys have any suggestions for changing the league stats, roster size, scoring style, or draft time, let me know asap!

Enjoy!

tbh im a fan of having every stat except shots on goal and shot percentage.

that and id like 3C and 6W instead of the 2C, 2RW, and 2LW

last year i was the bomb and i shall b the bomb this year as well :)

Joe

I tried to pick stats that didn't really overlap that much. I personally like shots on goal because its not as completely random as something like game winning goals, so there's actually a little bit of strategy in the game. I'll think about it, but I kind of like how that is.

I might change the players. I only did it the way I had done it before but I think you're right. I think its a little easier that way.

Alright well I'll give it a shot.

Ya it's fun I promise. Takes out the randomness of a superstar having a bad week in the championship and you losing.

Like what happened to me last year or the year before when someone (I think it was you) beat me because Heatley crapped the bed.

But ya join a public head-to-head league if you want. I normally join one of each. I'm in two roto leagues this season though, apparently. One of them is season 2 of a keeper league.

Auto-drafting actually doesn't turn out too bad a lot of the time. You might get a couple old guys who have been going downhill for a couple seasons, but for the most part you can still do ok.

My team was autopicked last season and I think I finished 4th.

Joe
09-21-2008, 10:22 PM
Yeah Nungman you were 2nd but Neo was first and went with Nabby so you got OV.

I actually like my team a lot this season.

Malkin, Nik Backstrom, Sakic, and Patrice Bergeron at center is awesome.

Also, Fabian Brunnstrom in the 18th round will be the steal of the draft, mark it guys.

morrissey
09-21-2008, 10:27 PM
Nung and Neo got screwed near the end but it's nothing a little addition and removal can't fix.

My roster:
Heatley-Kopitar-Tanguay
Stempniak-Ribiero-Stillman
S. Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kobasew
Bench: Stamkos, Lombardi, Weiss

Green-Markov
Burns-Zidlicky
Bench: Gilbert

Lundqvist
Thomas

I didn't intend to go so Montreal-heavy, it just happened. Here's hoping they have a good statistical season. I'm pretty weak down the wing and I'm banking on a lot of breakout seasons. I've got great goaltending though.

nungman
09-21-2008, 10:31 PM

Joe
09-21-2008, 10:32 PM
Yeah Nung I forgot you also got Sundin!!!

Mine is

C: Federov, Sedin, Kozlov (Caps)
Wingers: Iginla, Nash, Byfuglien, Carcillo, Knuble, Burrows
Bench: Booth, Loui Eriksson, Jere Lehtinen

D: Timonen, Blake, Boyle, Shane O'Brien

JS Giguere
Theodore
Huet

My team is very west-coast heavy, which tends to always be pretty good. And I feel like the Caps are going to have a great year, and if they do, I'll be set!

4yearpro?
09-21-2008, 10:33 PM
centers:

defense:

duncan keith
paul martin
johnny oduya

backup:

Goalies:

Bench:
Filpulla, Hudler, Murphy

I only chose like my last 5 picks, but my team is pretty good, except goalies. So, anyone who is willing to trade goalies, that would be great

MattSharpIsCool
09-21-2008, 10:40 PM
Centers:
Evgeni Malkin
Niklas Backstrom
Joe Sakic

Fabian Brunnstrom

Defense:
Zdeno Chara
Ed Jovanovski
Eric Johnson
Braydon Coburn
Ryan Suter

Goalies:
Marty Turco
Marty Biron

I need another winger, so if anyone wants Michael Nylander, send me an offer. He'll be playing with Ovy, maybe not full-time, but he'll still get some time with him, most likely on the power-play.

Sorry, the correct steal of the Draft was Shawn Horcoff in the 2nd last round.

That could be, I had him on my queue list but ended up taking Bergeron instead.

And if he can come back strong and not have any issues with the concussion, I'm holding out hope for a 90 point season in the 15th round.

Which, I'm sorry, would pwn your Horcoff pick.

Nungman, drop Carle, he's the crappy one from Montreal who will probably be in the minors all season.

Elliott is Ottawa's 3rd string and probably won't play until February, if at all. He won't hurt your team with bad stats, but you're better off getting a good bench player.

It's decent. You're quite lucky you grabbed a Detroit defensemen because otherwise your +/- would have stunk. I don't know about Price just because he's still going to be a rookie for the first half of the season - that was my reason for not picking him in other leagues. But you never know - Montreal is going to be good and he's going to get the wins.

40+ wins, 6-8 shutouts, a 2.20 GAA, and a .920 save percentage
30 wins, 3-4 shutouts, a 2.60 GAA, and a .920 save percentage

Which goalie is better?

The note on yahoo said he would miss the first 3 days of training camp, so I thought it sounded pretty minor.

Oh well there are defensemen in the free agent pool or trades. At least I drafted Kurt Sauer....he doesn't have anywhere near the upside of Johnson but he's a decent defenseman.

I actually dropped one of my goalies, LA's backup I think, and one of my defencemen, Cory Murphy or something. I tried to move Ty Conklin into the goalie spot, and Brad Stuart into the Dmen and it won't let me.

A ton. Having bad goalies can singlehandedly lose your season.

We have 10 stat categories in our league, and 4 of them are goaltending categories. You have 13 starting skaters and only 2 starting goalies. So 13 players contribute to 6 categories, and only 2 players contribute to your other 4.

Trust me, in my other league last season I had Kiprussoff and DiPietro. My offense was solid enough but those guys were the reason I ended up in 6th instead of the top 3.

And ya, you have 2 backups goalies, a goalie in the AHL, and Toskala, who isn't bad but he's not great. So you should probably try and shore that up a bit.

Savard is great - he'll give you big assist numbers. I don't think the Rangers are going to have as big of a season as these first 6 games have shown - I think it'll be closer to Ottawa last season. I think they'll end in like 5th. I think Staal will have bigger numbers and I think Gaborik will have better numbers than all three - especially if he leaves Minnesota around trade deadline.

I actually hate Naslund, so I wanted to get rid of him. I really expect the rangers to collapse entirely and miss the playoffs. I have this feeling, and I tend to be right on my feelings...
As for Savard, he was the one I was more hesitant to get rid of, but Gaborik will probably get me goals, which I'm in need of, and I'm hoping to trade for a goalie still, which I really need.

MattSharpIsCool

Shady definitely got the better haul in that trade.

Naslund is old and hasn't broken 60 points in 2 years. Savard is awesome, this is the first time in 2 or 3 years I don't have him on one of my teams, but you'll be lucky to get 20 goals out of him. I know you don't want him for goals, he gets a ton of assists, but still, a few goals would be nice.

Joe

In Rotisserie, like our league, it adds up your total points and compares them with other people's totals. For example if you're in a group of 12 people and you're in 10th in total goals, then you get 10 points. Rotisserie is the easiest, IMO.

PayneTiger777

Ah I see. What about for the goalie scoring though? (I have Lundqvist and Brodeur)

Joe
10-16-2008, 06:15 PM
It averages your GAA and your SA% from game to game, I believe. And then Wins and Shutouts are the same as offensive stats.

Actually, contradicting what I just said, if you give up 3 goals on 10 shots in one game (.700) and have a 2 shot shutout next game (1.000), I think you would be at 3 out of 12 at .750 rather than the average between two games which would be .850

Actually....

If you're 10th in goals out of 12 teams, you'd only get 3 points. Whichever team has the most combined goals get 12 points, 2nd most goals gets 11, and so on down the line until the team with the least goals only gets 1 point in that category.

And with goalies....they average out your teams GAA and Sv% between your 2 goalies. So if one goalie has a 2.00 GAA and the other has a 2.50 GAA, your teams GAA will be 2.25. So if that is, say, the 2nd best GAA of any team in the fantasy league, you get 11 points for that stat.

Although I'm not sure Kipper is playing badly. I've seen a couple Flames games this season and their defense is awful. It surprised me because I thought that was sort of their strong point. If Phaneuf or Regher aren't on the ice, it's like their defense is clueless.

Joe
10-17-2008, 07:13 AM
It happened last year too. Kipper does not have a great GAA. He'll get you other numbers later in the season (actually, last year was one of his fewest shutout years, so don't count on shut outs) but Calgary will turn it around at some point. They've got great talent on that team.

But for now expect to be in last place in your respective leagues in terms of goaltending...

morrissey
10-17-2008, 11:49 PM
I hear a lot of Calgary fans complaining about poor conditioning with Kipper. He comes to camp out of shape and uses the early months of the season to get warm up. That's fine if your team is good enough to win games with crappy goaltending for half the season, and then have it pay dividends in the playoffs, but Calgary's not in that position.
