If you are trying to listen to Indie music solely for the sake of being indie, then read an issue of "Paste". They have mastered the art of listening to a band based solely on obscurity, and not actually enjoying anything you listen to.

lol I've enjoyed the several issues of Paste I read, but yeah the only band they reviewed that I knew of was My Morning Jacket

The magazine is very well written, don't get me wrong. But the only thing I heard on their sampler CD that was remotely interesting to me was Izza Kizza...

paste is **** and need to **** off from festivals

i get rolling stone and spin but only for the pictures.
rolling stone is starting to suck with pictures but spin has given me robert pollard and brian wilson the last two issues.

rolling stone is surprisingly inaccurate at album reviews but i really don't mind the rest of the magazine

they don't even have good writers or good article subjects. all they seem to write about is ancient dinosaurs or bands no one (music fans) cares about. john mayer, jonas brothers, john cougar etc.

and their politic writing is just... bad.

Agreed. They do these massive bias political articles as if readers look to Rolling Stone for advice on how to vote. I imagine they alienate a lot readers.

Skyscraper. Covers yr larger alternative acts but also a lot of obscure/unknowns. Not overly wanky either.
