Some argue that queer theory is a by-product of third-wave feminism, while others claim that it is a result of the valuation of postmodern minoritizing, that is, the idea that the smallest constituent must have a voice and identity equivalent to all others.

It's clearly a result of third-wave feminism.

I thought it was simply a result of putting all remarkable sexual identities in the same header.

It's not to debate the merits of the wikipedia article it is to debate the debate the wikipedia article speaks of.

I'm a proponent of Queer Theory. Clearly, our society has created a binary opposition in terms of sexuality as a means of forcing people to fit into some sort of narrow ideal. As a bisexual man, I know very well that sexuality and sexual identify are not nearly so simple.

Whether the source of this particular theoretical perspective is third-wave feminism or post-modernism is really a non-issue. I think most queer theorists would point to Michel Foucault as the "first" queer theorist. Besides, I would argue that third-wave feminist thought itself is heavily influenced by post-modern social theory.

Sort of off-topic, but this subject reminds me when my father told me that he would disown me if I was gay.

but then we both turned out straight and he told me he was very relieved.

I think 40 is a good number to cut people off at. This point invalidates all points of views and retires you to an island in the south pacific.

ive never understood this.

I mean its pretty obvious that one human could have a penis while the other had breasts regardless of the stigma attached from a social construct.

Because gender =/= sex.

Mr. Ron

Of course, but the differing level of hormones, genital identity and so on shapes a person in dramatic ways.

It is the interplay of nature and social conditioning that creates identities. For example, there's probably a good section of the self-identified heterosexual population that finds themselves obliquely attracted to the same sex.

ive never understood this.

I mean its pretty obvious that one human could have a penis while the other had breasts regardless of the stigma attached from a social construct.Everything that is labeled as gender or sexuality is an admixture of biologic urges and trying to define those urges through human sociologic terms of heterosexual, homosexual, and everything between. Meaning that it's trying to define an intrinsic thing that can't be clearly defined. Many animals in the wild court the same sex and partner for life. Do they ostracize them because of their biologic urge? They do not because there is no sociologic definition of gay or fag to them.
