Whats up guys, just a couple songs I thought I'd throw out here for you, but from what I've noticed in previous threads I get the feeling the majority of you will not like them(Raayl mainly haha) but you never know.
Check the first 3 tracks for some metal/whatever you wish to call it and the fourth track for some melodies and solos. Tell me whatever...even if you feel the need to rip me a new spatula it will be taken with open arms :)

i listened to them all, liked criscusitis the most. how were they recorded? We went to a friend of ours with a little studio, not much but he has a decent selection of of mics with a nice mixing board and a good amount of preamps and what have you all running into a Digidesign 002 interface. We got those tracks after about our 3rd or 4th visit so everything is only slightly mixed and the vocals werent done yet(obviously...4th song). But anyway thanks for listening, Criscusitis is my favorite to play as well haha.
And to Gopher, honestly I dont know what to call it...metal, hardcore, grindcore, poop, some parts may be a combination of the previous. But the vocals are screams so I guess it may just be screamo crap.

the songs sound like they'd be pretty standard contemporary hardcore/metal if they were recorded better. the mix is terrible, and there isn't much low end frequency to speak of. i wouldn't go back to "your friend's studio" if this mix is the best he can do with that kind of spread.
the vocals sound good - but the music lacks power in a very bad way. i guess you could say this type of music doesn't need a phenominal, over-produced mix, but it most certainly needs to be loud and booming. which it isn't.
well, there are a lot of issues with the guitar tone, too. it's just all very hollow and tinny. which totally contradicts the point of metal imo.
EDIT: but it does sound like it's going in the right direction. i enjoyed it regardless of my nit picks.

Keep in mind those aren't the finished tracks, just some pre-prods to keep us busy while he finishes up the mix and master. But since they are what they are I see were you are coming from.
I'm not trying to spam or anything but if you would like to hear his finished product try his band. http://www.myspace.com/enemyinferis I always thought he did a good job for a budget studio.

well i just embrace the philosophy of waiting until things are done before you upload them. the quality isn't "bad" but it certainly isn't good. the reason i even say this is because if you painted an accurate picture of his recording setup this should sound 100x better.
go to the guitar forum and listen to what some of the guys over there do with little other than a line6 DI setup to see what i mean.

I totally agree....I wasent even the one who uploaded the tracks, I just kept them in my truck to listen to and have some mental band practice on long trips haha.
And I see what you mean about the guitars now, I have a little Line 6 Toneport USB and get better tones out of it, but these guitars were mic'd up I belive and the EQ(if any so far....i wasnt there when they did guitars) was just amps and protools.
But we shall see in time how they come out.....Oh and by the way great job with Part Fiction :thumb:

ty for the listen. i appreciate it.
further: I understand listening to your work is very pleasing. i listen to my own work daily. i just don't like seeing potentially good bands ruined by poor producers.

Fair enough, and I'm glad you enjoyed them.

Some of the riffs definately sound awesome. But yeah, the mixing is a bit poor (there's just no bottom end at all) and this is coming from me (www.myspace.com/tactusa).
I think if my (i mean our) tracks had some of the recording traits you guys have and some of your tracks had the bottom end of our tracks then there'd definately be a sweet middle ground where we'd both sound awesome :thumb:

Definitly....I'll post the finished tracks when we get them. And excellent songs by the way, I love all the off times chugs being a big Meshuggah fan and raayl's vocals really tie everything together nicely.

the quality of our mix is much better on my soundclick, which is at http://www.soundclick.com/raayl
the bass is a bit boomy and the drums tend to get buried, but there's a huge difference in power - most of which comes from the tracks' ability to move the sub.
you don't need a good mix to sound powerful either. mids+low end=power. heavy mids are abrasive and automatically become distinct and loud to our ears, and when you combine that with room-filling low end your track begins to destroy, rather than just play.

Our "final" mixes are up now if anyone is still interested, and honestly I'm dissapointed. Still no low end but I guess you can't win them all.

nah dude they sound so much better. be proud of these.
with mastering they will destroy. vocals are great.

btw i think this band will make you feel better about your mixes:

great stuff with a purposefully bad mix. not a lot of low end but still has the abrasive power of heavy mids.

That's how I found out about them. They opened for Fantomas a few years ago when I saw them.
Is this a show that you're going to?

That band is very interesting to say the least.
But I really appreciate you listening and i'm glad you can enjoy. It just sucks now that his band is on hiatus while our guitarist is away at college. haha.

I was just looking it up because I wasn't sure if it was a tour or something, turns out they're playing The Director's Cut in it's entirety. That's going to be wicked.
But they should do that with their self titled and Suspended Animation.

suspended is good and their s/t is good and i think conceptually DC was well done, but outside 1/2 listens it loses its worth
Fantomas albums like the S/T and SA work like this: first time through its like yeah. awesome. but after a few listens you put it away. Every few months i might listen to a few tracks - cause i forgot how crazy it all was and ill remember and be nostalgic.
but director's cut=could listen to over and over and over and over and over.
PS go post in my new thread jackass.

I really like Suspended Animation. And the Bugs Bunny sample at the end is the perfect conclusion for it.
