s/t is their only good album.

Mordecai is the only good song off of silent circus.

Actually I'm surprised to hear this, for a long time that's been my argument. I still support that, except that their first album is extremely amateurish and thus is probably the only display of their actual skill instead of the over-theorized chopping block **** they come up with now.

Thor

the s/t is pretty awesome, though it's what i listen to the least (excluding the cover album).

SugarCoatedSour
09-08-2008, 10:06 AM
well I'd say it's their "realest" album. It's not all technical but it also doesn't sound like it was composed on a computer, and it has their amateurish naive opinion all over it, instead of singing about things that are overly abstract or concepts they don't understand. The other albums although are good in theory don't progress the sound much at all, for example Selkies sounds like they lifted it straight from latter day King Crimson.

silent circus is amazing but colors blows away anything they have ever done and a lot of stuff out today its soooo good
its one giant song and it covers so many diff bases in music genres
the only downfall is that for it to be the strongest u have to sit and listen to the whole thing in one sitting as opposed to listening to one song every now and then and not in order
but none the less amazing band
amazing cd

They're half-awful live. Paul is the only one who looks like he's really enjoying himself and Tommy is all over the place. But Dusty looks like he's about to fall asleep, Dan moves nothing but his forearms, wrists, fingers and neck and Blake essentially stares at his biceps and thighs the entire time.

Basically, in seeing them live it becomes plainly obvious that they're a 2-man band with a bunch of session musicians.

I love Silent Circus and Alaska but I don't feel them as much as Colors. Ants of the Sky and Prequel are my favourites but I love shevanel take 2, mordecai and selkies.
I think they're brilliant live, I agree that they don't move too much, but yeah, have you seen what they're playing? If they moved around like shitty punk bands playing 2 chords, then they wouldn't be the same musically now would they?

*Autodidact breakdown

kattunlover69

there's no need to jump in and say anything here, but i thought i should defend the conceptual nature of this part in the album. the rhythm is an obvious variation on the build up before it, which which has the same groove in 13 that happens around the 1:55 mark earlier in the song, and the build up itself is a variation on the rhythm during the 7/8 unision section of ants of the sky around the 2:45 mark. the "breakdown" in white walls is a variation of all this but put in 4/4 and leads back the 5/4 - 4/4 ascending run section; which is a variation of the end of sun of nothing. the whole end of white walls is a big coming together of the whole record....the solo section is the same em cmaj amin progression that verdian ends with, is in the middle of white walls building up to the 'this is all we have' part, and the key change at the end of the solo section are the same chords found in ants of the sky at the 6:05 mark. so the whole last 4 minutes of white walls are about bringing back themes with different variations or direct quotes, and that breakdown plays a part in it.. so we didnt just give up and throw that in there. it has a purpose.

-dusty who responded to the same statement thingy

well it stills....the record is dif....oh nvm...
