So, like others, i got into Dragonforce, and now i feel like delving into the epic/power metal world... i really do enjoy the corny over-solo feel of Dragonforce though... anyone wanna recommend me some good epic/power metal bands with lots of good shred solos?

This could also double as a epic/power metal discussion thread, if you guys feel like it. Go! :smash:

If you judge power metal by funniness, then what would you call this? Like totally shameless? xD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HxCRZRMZBk

angra, anubis gate, avantasia, blind guardian, kamelot, thy majestie, rhapsody of fire, sonata arctica, and musically wintersun has a good deal of power metal influence. those are my reccomendations from my itunes list.

yea there is, and it's all ten times better than dragonforce. check out angra if you like dragonforce. all the chops, but capable of reserve and tastefulness and actual songs.

cellador are similar to dragonforce except with much more tolerable vocals, no video game emulations and guitar solos that actually make sense. they are kind of like the avenged sevenfold of power metal. that being said im not a big fan but i have that one album and im sort of into it.

epic metal? i like to listen to stuff like pagans mind which is a little bit more progressive but with lots of power metal influenced moments.

rhapsody of fire etc etc

RNR

Cellador are not the Avenged Sevenfold of power metal. They are the Cellador of power metal.

It's great, this thread is like a catalog of bands I can't stand.

some people just don't like power metal, or epic metal in its entirety. if you can't stand the cheese, don't partake in the large serving of cheese soup that is power metal :D But I thoroughly enjoy epic, cheesy stuff if it is really well done, so cheese soup it is.

btw do you just want epic power metal, or do you want everything that is good in the entire epic metal sphere (including some symphonic black, some viking, and some progressive)?

they are, painted pretty boys playing mediocre power metal with lackluster guitar solos that are semi-catchy.

They slay and with ridiculously poor production quality and no vocal or instrument editing. The new album will fry your titties off.

I'm just gonna list some of my favorites

Blind Guardian
Symphony X
Sonata Arctica
Rhapsody of Fire
Stratovarius
Firewind
Dark Moor
Helloween
Iced Earth
Persuader
Serenity
Demons & Wizards
Iced Earth
Nightwish
Kamelot
Labyrinth

That being said, my top songs off all time from those bands are

The Odyssey by Symphony X
Then There was Silence by Blind Guardian
Halloween by Helloween
Dark Tower of the Abyss/Symphony of Enchanted Lands (minus the gay intro) by Rhapsody
Legions by Stratovarius
Full Moon/The Power of One by Sonata Arctica
Blood on My Hands by Demons & Wizards

so many more songs to love, but those stand out in my mind.

Kamelot, and get their album "The Black Halo", quite possibly the best power metal album IMO

I liked Karma a bit more, but all Kamelot is pretty amazing in general.

I just posted this link into another thread btw. It's a band called Powerglove. They're doing a tour with Dragonforce apparently. I'm not very fond of Dragonforce, but I like this stuff. :P They cover Nintendo music. ^^

yea, without the progressive influence it's just well played metal with no vocals, it doesn't convey anything because it has no real emotional or conceptual purpose usually.

he was talking about norther being "cob wankery" not kalmah

the only reason people compare cob and norther is because of the vocals, musically cob are a lot more technical

kalmah is just better than most of the bands mentioned itt

They're both gems, but I feel embarrassed for listening to these bands

Seriously, 'Dragonland' sounds like some kind of pussy roller coaster for seven year olds they set up at the fair every year

And don't even get me started on 'Fairyland'

btw, Celesty if no one else mentioned them already ... epic namedrop; oh and Rata Blanca if you don't mind the Spanish

Chances are a lot of these have been mentioned in here so I might be a bit of an echo, but oh well.

Kamelot
Helloween
Kiuas - listen to the album 'The Spirit Of Ukko'
Axenstar
Firewind
Sonata Arctica - personally the majority of their songs bore me but a lot of people who love power metal love them
Ride The Sky - kind of generic but I still like them

I'll check out Lost Horizon soon.
