I only heard about this yesterday. Here's what I could dig up:

Tekken is a 2009 live-action film adaptation of the popular video game series. The film follows Jin Kazama played by John Foo to rid himself of the devil which plagues his soul. Now a man, he must confront his father, Kazuya Mishima, played by Ian Anthony Dale and his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. The film is being directed by Dwight Little and is set for a 2009 release date.

John Foo playing Jin. Looks decent enough.

Ian Anthony Dale as Kazuya. Pretty badass.

Stereotypical Asian villain of the 1990s as Heihachi. ****ing A

Rather neat how they've gotten an actual kickboxer to play Brian Fury, and a Capoeira artist to play Eddie Gordo.

For the other cast:
edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP02jCJx4UU

Director Charles Stone III on the film:
"Tekken will not be anything like Mortal Kombat or any of the Lara Croft movies. You will get the feeling of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon. A chance to get to know the characters before the inevitable slap down. It will have plenty of 'A' list actors... Our budget is good so we shouldn't have problem there."

Hopefully, this won't suck.

Just because you are unaware/unfamiliar/ignorant of Tekken's back story, does not mean that there is no back story.

hmm

Heihachi Mishima, the powerful and ruthless owner of the multi-national Mishima Zaibatsu, has announced the King of the Iron Fist Tournament, a fighting competition with a one billion dollar cash prize. There are eight competitors, and one of them is an undefeated world champion who is apathetic towards the prize money and solely wants to take his revenge on Heihachi.

This man's name is Kazuya Mishima, the son of Heihachi. As history puts it, when Kazuya was five years old, Heihachi threw him off a cliff to see whether or not he was really his son (this would be determined by Kazuya's ability to survive the fall and climb back up). Kazuya did indeed survive the fall, but it left a deep and bloody scar on his chest which was slowly claiming his life. The Devil appeared before Kazuya, offering him the opportunity to retrieve his strength back to take his revenge on Heihachi in exchange for his soul. Kazuya, driven by anger and hatred, accepted.

The King of the Iron Fist Tournament takes place twenty-one years later, and by now Kazuya is an undefeated champion (the only blemish on his record being a draw against Paul Phoenix, another character from the game who wishes to win the tournament as well as defeat Kazuya). Kazuya enters the tournament, and ultimately makes it to the final round where Heihachi awaits him.

Kazuya and Heihachi clash in battle atop the same cliff from which Heihachi once tossed Kazuya, with the violent and bloody fight raging on for hours until Kazuya, powered by the strength given to him by the Devil, overpowers Heihachi and beats him into unconsciousness. Kazuya picks up his father's broken body, and drops it from the cliff. Smiling to himself in triumph, Kazuya is now the new owner of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

oh wow yeah this movie is going to be epic definitely one of the top 5 movies ever made i can't wait

you're probably one of those idiots who thought mortal kombat was an incredible movie because you spent 400 hours of your childhood playing it on your gameboy

this movie will probably be entertaining. a movie doesn't HAVE to be a great work of cinema to be a good and enjoyable movie... Sometime's I just want to see two asian dudes duke it out on a mountain top and not really care why, just knowing its awesome is enough.

So you can take your snooty taste in movies elsewhere good sir.

On that theme, it's interesting to note that they're casting professional fighters, so that will hopefully add a sense of realism.

It has a lot of potential if they make something of Heihachi's way of using people, and perhaps even explore the research he did on the "devil gene". Other than that I worry that this movie's focus will actually be too restricted since this is the kind of story that's driven by several characters, not just three.

Ja, hopefully they'll be able to interweave all the side stories with the central story. I wonder if Yoshimitsu will make an appearance...? No sign of King yet either.

Lol at the folks freaking out at people's positive responses to this movie. It's not like fanboys are hailing it as a master piece. It looks like it could be a fun action movie for fans of the series. What exactly is wrong with that?

Yoshimitsu is in the movie. If you'd read my post that's just above yours you'd see that. Eddy Gordo is in the movie, and I believe there's a Jack variation in it as well. No Paul. Guess his hair was too stupid/the guy from Static X was busy.

If said morons had read my opening post, they would have noted my comment at the bottom: "Hopefully, this won't suck." No ****, video game to movie adaptations haven't been great. Won't stop me digging up news about the movie though, I want to see how characters make the transition from game to silver screen, I want to see their costumes, I want to find out whether it'll be faithful to the game or not, etc...

No Paul. Guess his hair was too stupid/the guy from Static X was busy.
