So there was a bit of fuss about this Aussie show about gangland wars a while back, banned in Victoria etc.
I've never watched it but I have the boxset here, should I?

The first episode or two with Colosimo is great, but idk the next episode was meh so I stopped watching. Definitely watch those first two episodes though, good stuff.

I've liked Vince Colosimo in just about everything else i've seen him in.

It is worth seeing and better than most Aussie TV dramas, but it's not what it's hyped up to be.
Also, I've never seen such gratuitous and unnecessary use of slow motion in my life.

Really? Those type of effects tend to annoy me :(
Well i'll watch it anyway.

I think slow motion can be cool when used sporadically. The shot of De Niro with that Cream song playing over the top in Goodfellas for instance, is cool. Slow motion in every second scene during Underbelly is not.
The other gripe I have is that fact it moves so fast. Covering a nine year underworld war in 13 episodes is stupid, characters are introduced then killed off two episodes later :-\. Channel Nine must have been extremely dubious about the state of local TV drama, I can't really think of any other reason for compressing it like that. I bet they're regretting that now, considering how successful it's been.

Yeah, like any video effect as long as it's not overused it can be tasteful.
I just watched the first episode, it's very wham bam action orientated in the way its edited together. I usually don't like this kind of style but it was quite enthralling actually.
I heard it was really good, lots of my mates really enjoy it. Might have to give it a download.
They are making a second series right?

^ you're an idiot. Out of this Aussie thread.
It's a great series. I loved it. Well worth watching. The prequel series is being filmed as we speak, which rotates around Collossimo's character.

Yeah I did some wiki'ing, a prequel. I've watched a few ep's now, it's good. I'm going to have to read the book after i'm done with this even if the rest of the series is bad.
i watched up until like the 7th episode i think on some pirated dvd. i really enjoyed it tbh
plenty of T&A :thumb:

Good show. Possibly better suited, the way it was handled, to a mini series or even feature film format. The weird one relatively short season thing it had going on made it hard to follow. As it was, the plot was paced too quickly. I missed like one episode and half the characters were dead. Didn't help that it performed badly here (don't really know why) so they moved it to some ridiculous 1am time slot or something. Maybe in the holidays I'll download it all and watch it through.

I watched the first 8 episodes. It was alright, but the acting was pretty shoddy at times and I just felt like they coiuld have spaced it out far better. Often it felt like there were really unnecessary sex scenes, not that it's a big problem, but that time could have been used for more plot oriented stuff.

I think, given how complex yet fast the whole shenanigans were, they had to kind of choose to show a certain arc in the story. I guess it was either do a short run of episodes, or do 70 odd so...

I liked it ... it was kind of scary thinking 'i've been there!' when somebody gets shot

Nothing like a shooting at an U7s soccer match to get the blood pumping.
