A few times i've come across difficulties adding artists to the database where there aren't enough characters to be entered.

I got away with Emir Kusturica &The No Smoking Orchestra without a gap. I'm wondering if this could be increased at all.

Also i'm not sure if it's a big deal but also I was wondering if there was anyway umlaut spelling of such groups as Einstürzende Neubauten and Motörhead could be used to search, it always results in a bad URL.

Thanks.

the umlaut represent that vowel being followed by an e. so motörhead can be typer as motoerhead. leftöver crack as leftoever crack.

it looks stupid but thats basically how it works, in german at least.

I believe there is a forty-character limit for artist names. mx would be the one to approach in terms of expanding that limit, as he's expanded the length of album titles before previously.

As for umlauts, tildes, etc. - the database doesn't recognize those characters for whatever reason. Average Joe, nine times out of ten, will search the database without looking up or typing in "Alt + 0233" for "é," so personally I don't have a problem with the surrogate name being displayed over the proper one.

k so i'll ask in the "For mx" thread? i just want to make sure this isn't a minor thing

i suppose the umlaut thing is fine just a couple of times I have copied and pasted artist names from various sites into MX and it gives me an error, it would be good to be redirected to the appropriate page regardless of if theres a minor spelling error regarding umlauts or what have you

the umlauts are decorative they are not supposed to be pronounced

perhaps you don't speak german, i do. the german language has 29 letters in its alphabet, all the english plus ä, ö, ü. the closest way to explain the pronunciation is if you have ae, oe, ue.

regardless, just spell them normally without the umlaut, most people will forget about it when searching anyway.
