Did anyone think this movie was really good? A pretty original idea and executed in a very diverse way.

I thought it was pretty lame, even for what was probably just supposed to be a over the top action movie.

I do agree, the blood and gore (i was watching the unrated version) was a little over the top, but i thought it was a genuinely original way of executing an otherwise played out concept

Someone hasn't seen Escape from New York. It's also like a giant tribute to Mad Max.

Regardless, it just didn't do it for me. Not as fun as I'd hoped and mostly weak on the excitement.

No i've seen mad max, but i haven't seen Escape from New York so you're correct there

I didn't say you haven't seen Mad Max, only it's like a tribute to it.

There's nothing original about it, but that's not the point. It's just not as fun as a movie like it should be.

Apart from genre, I really don't remember Escape from new York having any similarities to Mad Max.

I was wanting to see Doomsday (since I love Post Apocalyptic).

Sean Pertwee has a small role in it as well
although he gets cooked and eaten

I wasn't really comparing them. It's basically a plot like Escape with the aesthetic of Mad Max.

But, I think if you look beyond the specifics of each plot, you can find many similarities. Two anti-heroes going into an anarchic environment to get something (the President or revenge).

I liked how they made a show of it. If the movie could have kept up the excitement in that scene it would have been a lot better for me.

Doomsday is one long homage to Escape From NY and Mad Max. Its entertaining, but nothing special.

Just watched it now. I thought it was pretty cool. Sure there's quite a lot wrong with it but the sets were fairly convincing, the action was pretty tense in some places and though it was full of cliches, I found it to be quite a cool film indeed.

The virus is from 28 days later, the quarantine is from Escape from NY, Sol's gang was based on Mad Max, and Dr. Kane's gang was based on Braveheart. There's also stuff from the Warriors, Black Hawk Down, Aliens, Pulp Fiction and probably every other badass movie in the last 30 years. There was nothing original to the movie, but it blended together a lot of famous scenes and imagery really well.
