View Full Version : A Film For Every Country

Meatplow
08-17-2008, 08:17 AM
So my goal here is to get a list together of at least 1 film that is definitive of the film industry of each country in the world. Point out any defunct countries that don't belong here (unless of course a film was made there once), countries missing from the list or ones that for one reason or another would never have resulted in a film being made.

I'll be posting this on a few different boards and meshing all responses together. Go.

Denmark - Flickering lights

Pretty ridiculous idea though to try and boil it down to one movie as the representation of a whole industry, above mentioned film is only representative of the danish film industry from circa 1999 to now.

title is somewhat confusing, call it more a group of definitive films with the goal to get at least one for each country including the more obscure ones

so ultimately at least one film for each country.

I also noticed huge collections on the KG forums for several countries will go a long way.

would the killing fields count for england since they produced and directed it or cambodia since it was about them or even america since the lead actors were americans

Good thread idea.

I'm thinking with the nations with large, well established industries it pretty much speaks for itself so I might omit these or the list will get too large

If it was filmed by british crew in cambodia it's not really native to that country.

My answer was actually a joke.

I'm thinking that we should still try and pick on film (even from the United States). It will take a lot of debating, but we could probably find a classic film that epitomizes American film making.

I'm guessing to qualify as a film from a certain country, the production company has to be based there?

Yeah, for example Apocalypse Now was filmed in The Philippines and set it Vietnam but it was hardly the product of either nation.

i'd say the dish. it's a humorous yet poignant take on an important, yet often underlooked moment in australia's history. plus it's more polished than the castle.

the proposition is great, but doesn't speak much about the australian character or even the country's historical significance imo. i mean, it's set in the bush and shiz, and is an awesome flick, but just not as quintessentially australian as others i think. it could have been set in many different countries, really.

i'd have the magician for a roughie aswell. the great aussie hitman :)

I beg to differ with the Proposition. It has a lot to say about Australia. Doesn't overtly demonstrate it, but it definitely is an iconic Australian film because of it's historical accuracies and the psychological impact upon the early settlers.
