as some may know, i'm planning on releasing my first real, full-length album as raayl via download/torrent for free called "5,000 Years Alone." it should be available within the next week or so.
to bide time, i've re-done my page a bit to feature the album songs primarily. i've re-uploaded the tracks "Siphon Spine" + "The Solar Sons."
check them out.

how did you come up with "5,000 years alone"?
that's some sick **** you put up man. i'll be sure to get my hands on it. is the prison gonna be on it too? i think that was my favorite song you did, even if it was a collab.

lol the prison will never re-surface. naut and me both consider it to be a relative failure. sunskin however, (the other track we did) was pure win.
album title is a long story:
as far as 5,000 Years Alone goes...roughly 2 years ago i was working on putting together my first multi-instrumental album, and it was called "Written in the Blood of Rome."
the mantra, a verse from one of my first songs, goes: "5,000 years alone atop this bloody throne, atrophied eyes read cold pages written in the blood of rome." so i saw it to be a fitting title.
and all this is explained by macbeth, a book i cite constantly in my songs: reckless human ambition and lust for power leads to defeat and sorrow, always. being king is good. until you drown, alone, in the sea of blood you spilled to attain the throne.

well that explains it then... yeah, macbeth has always been one of my favorites as well.
and i'm glad i was able to download the prison while i could, i thought it was awesome...
good luck to ya.

eh it had good ideas, but poor execution. naut wasn't a fan of the music he did...and when naut doesn't approve it doesn't stay online. end of story, haha.

you should upload it to demonoid.com. I've found a lot of "underground" albums there so I'm guessing they'll welcome your album.

Use common ones. No one knows or cares what DC electro polka shoegaze is. Industrial/rap should be fine.
Experimental is WAY too overused and most people associate it with irritating sound collages anyway (which is why I stopped using it).

the exclusive torrent sites have more people who are willing to try new things. most people go to non-exclusive torrent sites to find something they're looking for, like movies or a specific album or whatever.

yes there are songs that you havn't heard.
I'd say 90% of this album I had uploaded for maybe a maximum of two days, with barely any plays. I always had my player play the FIRST song only, so anything else i uploaded took a super back seat. and if by some strange chance you HAVE heard them all...its been over a year since you have so it'll all seem new. also, alot of the tracks are actually updated, re-recorded remixes. symphony in red, the crisis, the dagger and ghosts to name a few.
here's the tracklist:
1) The Crisis
2) Siphon Spine
3) This is War
4) The Solar Sons
5) Symbiotic 3
6) D'entre Les Morts
7) The Nerve Stem
8) Ghosts of Elysium
9) Malignant Hero
10) Broken
11) Pry
12) Symphony in Red
13) The Dagger
14) Mutation
15) Ashes to Ascension
16) Extinct
50 minutes total, no filler what-so-ever.

nah i won't. because both of those songs? im sorry to say, but they suck. the mix is terrible. the tones blow. the vocal processing is amatuer AT BEST. they're just over-all not representative at all of what i can do well with music.

trust me - it helps. those songs just blow. the mix a song has is one of my favorite parts about it. and the mix on both those songs is pure fail. absolutely no low end at all. and if anybody has listened to my album....i love low end. my album dips into some really low frequencies especially with the percussion.
executing a nice low end sound in your mix though is difficult. when i was doing the mirror and TBB, i didn't understand enough about recording to do it well.

That's why most of what's on the radio is listenable, because those bands work with really good producers that make the recording sound good, but the song still sucks. There's plenty of music that I like that's poorly mixed, but it doesn't really bother me.

I don't see what the thing about the job has to do with a better sub to hear your music better. Obviously you can buy one with a job, but these things weren't related.

Typically better quality = more listenable = better.
A select few people can pull off lo-fi because it gives it a certain charm. Most of the time though, it's just painful.

This all started because I said I like those earlier songs. I'm told they suck because of the recording quality and the mix. I say I like the songs regardless.
I'm talking about the songs, everyone else just keeps bringing up the recording, not the songs themselves.
Quality can make a difference in how the song is received, but it doesn't change the song.
BenJammin

There comes a point, though, where crappy recordings really do detracted from the song as a whole.

It's possible, but the song is still the song.
If it's a good song that's terribly recorded, even to the point where it hurts the song, the song is still good. When played live, you're just hearing the song, and the record with the poor quality recording that you have at home is no longer a factor.

Or any one aspect.
I've just been trying to say that recording quality isn't everything and it rarely makes or breaks the song.
I've noticed quality makes songs way more often than it breaks them. And it doesn't make them good, it makes them listenable because the recording itself is sick, not the song. But I still don't listen to the radio, I listen to Bad Brains.
Edit: Been waiting so long to get my hands on Ghosts Of Elysium. Sick song.
