...but uni internet won't let me use rapidshare or megaupload or sendspace... and of course torrents are out of the question.
So should I just go and shoplift some CD's or is there a way to do this all digitally?

But I need to load an mp3 player I'm giving to an elderly woman who's had a stroke and she can't listen to music in the hospital and tbh I'm not willing to shell out the best part of $1000 for her, I'd rather spend $50 on an mp3 player and load it with pirated music.
but w/e I guess no Daniel O'Donnel for her I'll just have to load it with slipknot or something...

if you don't mind **** quality you can get a free account on rhapsody and then record the streaming music with soundforge or something.
Also I don't know what your library is like but mine has everything. They have cds I can't find on what.cd
use megadownload.com instead

It's because all the uni computers have the same IP, and upload sites will only let 1 file per IP address be downloaded at a time... which given the size of the uni means I've never been able to get one going... :-/

Encrypt the torrent socket and run it on a non standard port. Or get an encrypted tunnel.

yeah but a lot of Unis will detect torrents and shut it down, or will shut you off if you use too much bandwidth.
That's why you encrypt the torrent socket on a non-standard port and throttle it so you don't take up too much bandwidth.
