View Full Version : My bass was stolen today.

My Schecter Custom 6 is gone. It was sitting in my car at the park. What I don't get is why they didn't take the $300 GPS, the $50 USB drive, or my brother's wallet with $100 cash and his credit card.

I really hope I never find this guy because then I'll be looking at a murder charge instead of just a stolen bass.

Sucks.

More details though... did they break into the car or did you leave it unlocked? They just took the bass? Pretty sketchy if you ask me.

It was unlocked, but it was in the trunk. It's sketchy to me too. I dunno though, I feel like I'm missing an arm. A part of my life is gone. I guess I'll just have to watch ebay and call all of the local pawn shops/guitar centers/sam ash/etc and pray that the guy is dumb enough to bring it there.

Nope. I have to borrow one for the musical I'm in, which opens Thursday night.

And I left it open because I was less than 100 feet away and only gone for an hour. Kinda dumb though, I guess..

I have a lead on who might have done it though. Some scumbag kid in my town. Hopefully it was him so I can get it back and press charges on his dumb ***.

Do you by any chance have the serial number written down? If so, check Craiglist and the local used gear scene. You may be able to find it.

Alcohol didn't steal anything. You made a horrible decision and are paying the consequences.

I don't like that analogy. If the car was locked, but there were wads of cash sitting on the seat, then I would get it.

Ignoring the fact that your post already conjures an image of a "face palm", let's assume that he had already checked the backseat to see if there was something in there.

It takes a mere moment to glance inside of a vehicle to see if there's anything worth taking. Once that one to two seconds was up, he presumably moved on to the trunk.

But there were valuables in the front seat that the guy didn't take... Unless it was a punk kid. My brother in law's car was broken into and instead of them taking a $500 football jersey, GPS, and stereo, they took all his change for the meters...

I never leave my instruments in the car, ever, just for this reason. Even if it's locked and I'm only gone 10 minutes, they don't leave my sight.

If you have the serial number, hell, even if you don't, go talk to a pawn shop. They usually communicate with the other shops to be on the lookout for a stolen item.

Understanding In a Crash
08-05-2008, 03:50 PM
If the doors were unlocked then I find it even more sketchy what happened. I mean if a thief finds what he described was left in the car then it'd probably be a success as is and wouldn't gamble going into the trunk. The fact that he didn't take any of that and went straight into the trunk to take the bass only is really shady.

Also yeah it mind be the thread starters dumb move for leaving his doors unlocked but people who steal like this are scum on the earth.

skirt being tiny =/= doors being locked,

false parallel

since one cannot lock a skirt and no one wears chastity belts out in public, this does not work. Also, trying to guilt us by saying we fault him for not locking his doors = being easy on rapists? public school in the 70s mustve been a trip =P

I left my $1000 snowboard in the racks for a half hour to grab a slice of pizza (normally its locked but i forgot it) and it was gone when i came back, also devastating, but that was left in the open. who checks the trunk? dude was watching you...

also had a whole case of CDs stolen from my locked backpack while i was out riding a few years ago... i hate thieves...

since rape doesn't always happen to attractive girls who wear tiny skirts, this doesn't work again. All cars have locks, not all girls have mini skirts. Im not sure where your second statement fits in. It's so vague that it cant be argued or defended against...because it doesn't mean anything in this situation.

because pants could be considered a locked skirt, and you tried to figure out when I went to school without using a calculator and missed it by a decade.

lol, dude - you're blaming the victim. that's the point. what you're saying doesn't make any sense. it has no rational or logical weight. it's just dumb.

you are attempting to rationalize a basic human propensity - self preservation. blaming the victim for a crime is a way to subliminally reinforce how we "protect" ourselves. it is darwinian.

that's why it's really common to hear in threads like these "serves you right for being dumb." "shoulda locked up your stuff."

should have this, should have that, all this rhetoric is preventative. which reflects on the person saying it, not the person they are accusing.

so you have it backwards. blaming the victim for being raped is really no different. bottom line is stealing is a crime, preventative rhetoric after the fact means nothing.

so kindly stop talking.

If somebody passed up all those goodies, and went straight for the trunk that is out of sight that tells me that the person knows your a musician who keeps your bass in the trunk. I bet you know the person, or the person knows you.

I'll agree that blaming the victim of a crime isn't correct, but it is important to recognize that victims place themselves in victimizing situations purely as a result of their brain chemistry being altered by the initial instance of being a victim... Wow that sounded circular :p

That's what I was trying to say since the first page. This guy definitely had the guy who got his bass stolen number. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who started the thread is the thief himself now

Just a lil update. The biggest reason I left my car unlocked is because the alarm is ****ed up (water got in it off roading) so it randomly goes off when locked. And also, I talked to people at every local music shop, and they all have the serial number so if some one comes in trying to sell it they'll write down the guys personal info and give it to me and the police. I'm also watching ebay craigslist and local pawn shops like a hawk.

Also, I'm pretty sure I do know the guy who took it. Some punk *** kid from my town. We have bad history but I've never done anything bad to the kid, so if it turns out to be him he can bet his *** I'll be pressing charges.
