What strings do you guys have on your basses? And what's the worst pack of strings you've ever used?

Right now I have Elixirs 45-105's in my Musicman Sub Sterling, and Rotosound RS 66LD 45-105's in my Fender P. I really like the sound of the rotosounds, stainless steel ftw. Worst pack of strings, uh probably Dean Markley.

the worst set of strings i have ever used on my bass are Ernie Ball Regulars - they had no tone and felt horrible

at the moment i am using Elixers and plan on doing so for as long as i play bass

45-105 Nickel. Usually either D'Addarios or DR Sunbeams.

Really? I have Dean Markley strings on my Fender MIA jazz bass and they are awesome. Elixirs are my favorite though.
Worst was probably D'Addario which were on the Schecter that I sold. Maybe it was bass' fault not the strings'.

I have been using exclusively Hybrid Slinkies for a few years

I can't stand Elixers, D'Addarios, or anything lighter than 45-100.

Im using GHS Boomers 50-115. Aint so bad. Thinking of going something abit thicker to deal with drop c tuning.

Elites nickel 50-110, Roto 66 SS 40-100, La Bella nickel 45-100 are all good.

I find warwick red label to be incredibly good value for money with really nice and smooth mid and low range, higher up and particularly on the G-string they sound quite tinny and thin - might just be my bass and that I got pretty thin strings on a whim

atm i have Snarling Dogs Regular Nickelwounds, .45-.105, i'm pretty impressed really, considering it's a name i'd never heard of before i bought them, and the only cost $AUD50.

the set i had before were D'Addario XL Nickelwounds, which set me back about $AUD80, and so far the Snarling Dogs have held their tone much longer. although, i have been playing less on the SNarling DOgs than the D'Addarrio's

i'm kinda curious to play some Elixers, and i wanna know id i'll like them before spending $100 on them ...

how do they feel compared to sound rounds, grounds or flats?

As far as Elixirs go, I've only had them on my Musicman Sub Sterling for a day. My fingers are all torn up with calluses that I can't tell a difference as far as feel goes. But I def like the way they sound. I'll get back to you when I find out more. I don't blame you, they def cost a lot.

i like using d'addario or rotosound with either 45-100 or 40 to 95 i kinda like the thinner strings. i used to use those dean markley blue steels but gave them as well with the ernieballs. i wanna try those alchemy strings i heard some good things about it.

My problem with Elixirs is that while they do in fact last an exceedingly long time, they start out with mediocre tone and it never changes.

What's better to you:
A: Great tone that will diminish after a couple gigs and require you to buy some new strings which will immediately renew that great tone.

B: Mediocre (at best) tone that will stick around for a long time.

Strings aren't exactly cost-prohibitive, so I will always vote for A.

I don't do this often, but I ggree with you, Sade. The thing I like about elixirs is that they seem to have a very mellow, smooth sound.

They are great for tapping, but I prefer that kind of tone for tapping.

Right now I'm using regular slinky ernie ball strings. They're alright.

Worst I've ever used were elixirs.

When did I say that?

I'm just saying that it rarely happens.

I remember when we used to have aim conversations too. Short-lived, but nice while they lasted.

I've got Lo Rider DR's on my Ibanez and Hi Beams on this shitty no name. They made the no name sound 200% better, but still don't hide the fact that it sounds like ****. I'm going to put Black Beauties on my Ibanez, see how those work out.

I've tried D'Addarios, they were alright but I didn't fall in love with them like so many other people seem to. The first string I broke I tried to replace with an Earnie Ball, but before I even got the new string up to tension it broke. That ended my relationship with Mr. ball.

I had elixirs and I didn't like the feel of them at all. I got the crappiest tone out of them too. I guess they didn't squeak when I moved my fingers up or down the neck but that doesn't happen anyway with the way I play. The only thing I think they would be good for would be a fretless bass?

I have Sadowsky Black Nickels currently on my JO. Not a big fan of them, I think I just prefer the stainless sound. EBs and DRs are my favourite strings.

The worst I've was a set of Roto flats. Didnt do it for me. I do have TI flats though on one bass and I like them.

I have D'Addarios on my P Bass, Elixers on my BTB, and DR Marcus Miller Sigs on my Dean.

The worst set of strings I've ever had were Ernie Ball Slinkys. I snapped one of the strings the very same day I bought them. Needless to say, that was pretty lame.

I like Elixers on acoustic guitar.

Yeah, they're pretty sexy on the gee-tar. I used to swear by them until I switched to Martin Silk and Steel which are the nicest ever. Big full tone and weird light guage.

DR Marcus Miller sigs ftw on bass though, have 'em on my G&L and my P-bass.

Anyone suggest something nice and growly for a fretless? I hate flatwounds with a burning passion and haven't even touched mine in like a year.
