Look at those cunts on MTV
with their cars and cribs and rings and ****.
Is that what being a celebrity means?
Look boys and girls, heres BBC.
See corpses, rapes, and amputees.
What do you think now of the American dream?

Even the later stuff up untill now has some decent standout tracks.

Another morning stoner rules.

i thought you were already a Trail of Dead fan. well in that case what YOU need is the album Madonna. start with that first you'll probably be okay. this is a perri-specific post, i know what u want.

perriwinkle
08-03-2008, 09:24 PM
ooo sexy boi u ;] well ill take your word for it and pick that up

like i said i have source tags but have only listened to it through like once or twice or maybve never because i dont even remember specifically doing so. but i do know that one time i had 'it was there that i saw you' stuck in my head after not having listened to it for a whle and i was like man UGH that sounds so gooood what is thatttt!?!?!? (this also happened once with the heavy shouting part in Can - Mushroom Boy but since it was just that part i didnt think to consider Can, was thinkin about more punk/hc bands) and when i realized it was Trail of Dead that i was looking for i started to appreciate that song a whole lot more, and i played Another Morning Stoner on my show several times before i was really familiar with it, honestly mostly because i hear you jerkin that song off all the time sayin its the best and it actually is really good too. still havent give the rest of a cd much of a chance, but ill check out Madonna

it took me several tries to really get into STAC too. probably because the songs sound very similar to each other at first. but i knew right away "that second track, whatever it is... really good"

perriwinkle
08-03-2008, 09:40 PM

most of the other stuff is pretty worthless

perriwinkle
08-04-2008, 02:00 PM
i like his voice. i'm playin thru madonna again right now and it's actually on a perfect teenhood this second (checked which track it was when i read jac's post) and yeah this is an excellent song. i like when they change the pace/rhythm of the song like they do in this song and in track 3

Only listened to STAC once, but I remember thinking "some of this is really good and I'd probably like it a lot if I kept listening to it." I have a terrible habit of taking forever to revisit music I'm relatively unfamiliar with though.

08-04-2008, 03:48 PM

okay
08-04-2008, 08:10 PM

perriwinkle
08-04-2008, 08:17 PM
all im sayin is

first two tracks ****in ruuuule

cbmartinez
08-04-2008, 08:37 PM
yeah the first two tracks are great another morning stoner is def their best track but you'll come to love the rest

relative ways is so good

perriwinkle
08-04-2008, 08:42 PM
also i've listend to Madonna like sevvveral times through, and every single time, tracks like 5 through 11 just kinda blow past me, and i start paying attention again when Perfvect Teenhood comes on

Jacaranda
08-04-2008, 09:26 PM
another morning stoner is not their best song ffs

YDload
08-04-2008, 09:34 PM
it is.

source tags and codes (the title track) is better in the context of the album, but AMS works even as a single

Jacaranda
08-04-2008, 09:39 PM
nah.
i'd take baudelaire homage and maybe even days of being wild over it

jason reece > conrad keely

YDload
08-04-2008, 09:46 PM
keely has that stupid whiny voice BUT he just happens to play on all my favorite songs (except Caterwaul)

Jacaranda
08-04-2008, 09:50 PM
jason also likes unwound

can't remember did you see them live ydload?

YDload
08-04-2008, 10:21 PM
im sure everyone in that band likes unwound. they're thanked in the liner notes of STAC

no ive never seen them live. but im excited about the prospect of it ever since someone said they dont play So Divided songs live :D

Jacaranda
08-04-2008, 10:37 PM
aye they've disowned that album and new album out in september i guess w/o label so maybe it'll be more madonna/self titled/stac like hopefully.
their one of like 5 bands that i would travel like 4-5 hours to see again.

kinda wish neil busch would get back with them though

ya i don't read linear notes i just remember him talking about them in interview.

YDload
08-04-2008, 10:55 PM
neil busch has some pretty cool basslines in STAC... when you can hear them. but the bass really isn't the point. im mature enough as a bassist to be able to enjoy music that doesnt put it front and center (like Trail of Dead influences Sonic Youth and MBV)

cbmartinez
08-05-2008, 12:38 AM
the basslines on stac are siqqqqq

Source Tags is great stuff, I kinda get into everything this band has done.

BTW Another Morning Stoner ftw!

niobium
08-18-2008, 03:27 AM
it took me three years to decide this but

source tags & codes is very good. borderline great. at least when that occasion strikes to listen to it, otherwise it can sound very meaningless and jumbled

yes another morning stoner is one of the greatest singles of this decade

Bukowski
08-18-2008, 05:51 PM
i think Source Tags & Codes was the first album i ever got thanks to praise from this forum, back in early 2005. it's got some great songs, for sure. "relative ways" was my favourite.

YDload

yeah thats what made me get it too. also pitchfork's 10.0, which is a pretty bad way to judge music normally, but this time they were right.
