k so i bought a cymbal off ebay and i got a message earlier today saying it had been dispatched by 1st class rather than the parcelforce 48 delivery cause itd be quicker(apparently) so the seller has said theyll give me back the difference. but thats not the thing that troubles me.

THe seller said they dont have a box so they put it in a blanket and wrapped it up. that doesnt sound very well packed and the post office isnt gonna treat it with a lot of care its gonna be chucked on the back of a van and sent to me. tbh i think the delivery charge should include sufficient pakaging. its called postage and packing and there fore should be adequate.i just hope its not gonna get here and be crakced or damaged through delivery. am i being too worried over nothing. or should i be worried. if i ship a resonably large and potentially damagable item i put it in a box with bubble wrap not just whack a bit of cloth over it and cellotape and sent it off.

I'd agree with that, it should be sufficiently packaged so that it isn't damaged, and a blanket and paper wrapping aren't sufficient, in my opinion.

in a box the box takes all the direct hits and the contents dont fell muc of the force hitting them with protection coming from a something wrapped around it the force hitting the package will be transfered to the cymbal. its better than writing the adress on the cymbal and taking it but not much better. if i put an egg in a box and hit the box they eggs probably gonna be ok, if i put an egg in a towel and hit it its just gonna be messy. if theres any signs of unusual wear im sending it back. cos even if its not cracked it could have been weakened right and it might crack later when i cant send it back.

tbh im thinking of leaving neg feedback cos its taken em from tuesday till to day to despatch it. its ridiculous.

I wouldn't leave neg. rep for taking 3-4 days after payment to ship. If it actually is that horribly packaged when it arrives, then you have a right to.

Either way, I would surely mention the senders idiotic packaging technique in the feed back. Thats just not cool.

i just hope its ok. i dont want to have to gothrough trying to get a refund and waiting for something to come up on ebay. i might just buy new if itcomes damaged. go with the alpha full ride or something

Tbh, if the seller hasn't taken good care when posting it so he prob hasn't played/transported it with much care while he's owned it. There's a strong chance that if he thinks a blanket is sufficient protection to send it in the post, he's probably thrown it in his car either without a case or rubbing against other metals to transport it to gigs and such.
Therefore, I'd question it's condition cos if it hasn't been packaged properly, it probably hasn't been well looked after during it's life either.

Having said that, he could just be one of those inconsiderate ****s who thinks that now it's not his property he doesn't really need to treat it with much care.

Either way, it sucks! But you have to wait till the cymbal arrives to make a fair judgement.....right now, you can only make assumptions :)

Also, what cymbal is it and how much did you pay?

an AA medium ride and i paid £70. apparently its a second ride of hers and shes selling it cos "ONLY REASON FOR SALE IS I BOUGHT IT KIND OF SPARE OF THE MOMENT AND WAS USING ANOTHER 20" AAX RIDE AS A CRASH BUT DECIDED ON A SMALLER CRASH AND TO USE THE AAX AS MORE OF A RIDE SO THIS IS UP FOR SALE" but people can say anything really. im prolly worrying too much but i reallyif it comes and its damaged ill just have to send it back and wait for my money i just dont want to wait for ever to have a ride cymbal tbh. if it comes broken im just gonna buy new. cos at least then i know its not gonna have been treated badly by a previous owner.

Should be fine. I'd rather it wrapped in a thick blanket than a box. A box will be stacked in a truck, but a blanket they'll have to put in there carefully. My K China was delivered wrapped in three layers of bubble wrap, and it was fine and it's thin weight...

Buyer beware. Choose local stores and see the products youre buying

Having said that, a taped up blanket will be more than enough protection for the cymbals.
Think of it this way - Buy a cymbal and get a free blanket.

To be honest a blank should me more than enough. Hell, when I was running my ebay business most of the time I posted cymbals either wrapped in bubble wrap in a cardbard folder, or in a box with crumpled newspaper.

EDIT: What wait a minute i think I misread... she's like putting a stamp on the blanket she han't even wrapped the blanked in paper?!?!

Actually having your cymbal wrapped like that may offer more protection than having it shipped in a box. The way things are most commonly damaged in transit from the post office is by having way to much weight placed on top of the package. Since your package is odd shaped there is no way anything can be placed on top of it to crush it or bend it like what could happen if it was packaged in a box. The only thing you have to worry about is having it dropped, but a blanket should be more than enough protection if that should happen. Think about the cymbal bags you normally store your cymbals in to protect them. It should be fine I wouldn't worry about it too much, just inspect it thoroughly when it arrives.

This. I've ordered loads of cymbals online and they've almost all been packaged the same way. The only cymbal I've ever had arrive damaged was a 22" Paragon Ride (), and that was in a cardboard box, wrapped in bubble wrap and surrounded with packing pillows. Luck of the draw, I guess.

i thik the blanket is wraped in lke a bag n cellotape or something

so theres nothing to worry about then. k thanks i hate buying something and worrying about what might happen. i get really obsessive about waiting for packages sometimes i sit looking out the window all day waiting in case i miss them knocking. hopefuly itll be a nice blanket.

its here and you guys are right i was worrying about nothing. it wierd i tend to be really laid back about most things for instance, if never worry about uni exams or my results even if its a fail where as every one else bricks em selves but on postage i just go mental with worry till its here, its really the nonly thing that gets me like this. im probably postophobic.

on a side note this ride is really nice havent tried it with my kit yet (its only half 10 on a saturday so im being a bit considerate) but have tried it on its own in my room, im gonna go and try it in 10-15 min, and it sounds great, im glad i got this rather than going for a cheaper one

I'd say it was damaged before it went in. The way to tell is whether the bubble wrap near the damage spot is still intact and inflated. If it is, there's no way the damage could have occurred.

That's what I thought first, but the packaging was damaged at the same point the cymbal was

Call me a conspiracy theory, but maybe whoever pack it damaged the wrapping to make the damage look beleivable :-/

Could have done I suppose. It was a very specific piece of damage though.

What is the damage? and is just cosmectic with no effects in sound(if you know i mean)

DrumIntoTheNight
07-26-2008, 07:00 AM
Yeah, there's a 2mm indent in the edge of the cymbal. No cracks or anything, purely cosmetic.

Still, it was really irritating. I imported it from the States as it was so cheap, but it took 6 weeks to arrive damaged =/

Yeah I see what you mean. It's not on is it, I mean you expect it to be packed well nd arrive undamaged

DrumIntoTheNight

Well he apologised and gave me $25 dollars credit for my next purchase, but that's nothing really. It's too much trouble when you have to pay import tax too.
