As of late I've considered putting together my own snare for fun and as an alternative to just buying one. Saluda seems to sell already prepared shells that have snare beds sanded down on ebay for a pretty decent price (keller maple shells.) http://cgi.ebay.com/KELLER-MAPLE-8-x-14-SNARE-DRUM-SHELL-BEARING-EDGES_W0QQitemZ150217999458QQihZ005QQcategoryZ3809 5QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Do you think it's a good deal or could I find such a shell somewhere else at a better price?
Also any other website to look at for ordering hardware besides drummaker?
Thanks a bunch!

http://www.drumshed.org will help you answer your questions much better -- a great resource.

You can also check out Joshua Tree Percussion or Vaughncraft for stave/solid shells, I believe both offer drilling and bearing edge service.

I went with a keller shell from Saluda for my first build and I couldn't be happier.
Have you priced up everything you need including shipping? Usually it's the hardware that will cost the most. I ended up spending about £80 on the hardware, where as the shell was only £45 with shipping (that was for a 14 x 5.5). It's all the little costs like sandpaper and oil or whatever you plan on using to finish it with that mount up though. I think in all I spent about £170 for everything to build my snare, and that was just a basic oil finish, if you plan on doing a paint job it will be more.
like chippy said, go over to drumshed.org, do as much searching on there as you can, and then ask questions if your still unsure.
