View Full Version : There are 4 fire trucks from two different counties outside my apartment right now.

Apparently, there was a small electrical fire in one of the adjacent apartments in my building ... nothing major.

Anyway, it got me thinking .... If my apartment were ablaze, what items would I grab?

I would immediately grab my computer tower, my guitar, and my fine arts portfolio. Everything else I have is replaceable (my computer has all my digital artwork ... I need to update my backup external HD).

What would you grab?

What would suck is I would lose over $5,000 worth of DVDs and I could say goodbye to my two widescreen flat-panel monitors (the only other things of value I own).

Then, time permitted, my bike from the garage.

Yeah, I'd loose a shitton of fabric and weeks of work on clothes and such, but, too many clothes to grab.

I would take either a shirt or a jacket though, I wouldn't really wanna go out in my bra and PJ pants.

we once had an electrical fire. the house ended up being pretty much fine in the end, but all you should really be worrying about is getting everyone out safely.

It depends on the size of the fire. If it's containable a fire extinguisher would prevent a small fire from burning down your entire home, but otherwise they're pretty useless.

Honestly, since I'd be at my apartment, and I'm the only one there besides my roommate, I'd make sure he'd be awake and out. That would be the first thought. My second instinct would be to grab all my irreplaceables.

If I were at my parents' house with my sisters, getting them out safely would be my only priority (and my dogs).

Assuming my family and animals were safe, if I were to grab anything, it would be my guitar or my camping bag (it's already packed and ready to go). If I didn't grab a guitar, that would be the first possession I repurchase, and my bag would let me find some relative comfort anywhere.

I wouldn't have a problem leaving either behind if I needed to. Possessions are a burden.
