Hey guys I'm about to buy a few DW Custom drums. I'm just getting a rack tom, floor tom, and bass drum. I'm not into big sets. My question now is sizing of drums. What is width and depth? For example on 8X10 is that 8 deep and 10 across? For some reason i never knew this after all the years. All responses are appreciated! Thank You Patrick

I've seen it go both ways but usually it's width x depth.

but 8x10 in that case sounds strange.

Generally bass is reversed [think of an aerial view].

That's what I'm saying; from an aerial view, as it's sideways, it's reversed with bass-drums. Tricky tricky.

it's usually doesn't matter.

If you order a DW kit in 10x8, 14x12, and 22x18 OR 8x10, 12x14, and 18x22, I think they'll get the idea.

You should bold it to make it bigger.

It would make sense to be width x depth kinda like any other dimensions including width, the width usually comes first.
But I dunno, I always though it was width x depth but I have seen it the other way.

8"x10" looks better than 10"x8".

*sigh*

We've had this debate before. It seems that American publications tend to list sizes by depth x diameter, whereas British, and perhaps European, publications tend to do it by the diameter then the depth. It is ultimately your call, just make sure it's clear to DW (or whomever) which way round you're listing the sizes, and there should be no problems.

To be honest, assuming they've any common sense, they'll know what size of drums you want, but better safe than having a drum turn up 18" in diameter and 20" deep.

i like width by depth better because i prefer to know the width first cuz its more important

I find that way to make more sense as well, but there you go.

When listing drum sizes i always use the following

14 x 5 1/2
12 x 10
13 x 11
16 x 14
22 x 16

it only makes sense to list it that way, you get a faster sense of what kinda drums ur getting, you just go down the first collumn.
