Also agreed with 120x120 sized avatars for regular users, that way everyone could have a larger avatar in general and nobody would bother asking mods for them, and then mods could still have their slightly larger avatars. PMs would also be fantastic. And Maybe hire some new moderators, at least for the RM, a couple of the ones appointed there are never on at all anymore and we don't have someone modding RM half the time.

okay this is the best avatar related suggestion ever

drop the entire internally hosted avatar system as it is atm and just do the sensible thing and have externally hosted avatars which have a pixel limit but no data limit (which makes sense because then only imageshack.us or tinypic.com or whatever are being burdened with the bandwidth)

i would suggest a pixel limit of perhaps 200 width by 400 height (i don't believe that would break the tables/formatting for even an empty post)

jeremy saves like 9000 bandwidths and everyone can have poopty and larger avatars

i like the idea of slowly moving the forums toward a "social networking" vibe and less forum like vibe. sure...keep the forums. its where musicians and associated lunatics involved with music openly exchange ideas, etc. but more features would encourage new users (if we can get any) to stay. give them a reason to keep coming back

I really don't see the importance of having bigger avatars... I mean really. As a member, and previous member of many similar based forum sites, with just 50 x 50 is enough to get by, seriously, are we just avatar crazy on this site or something? Do we honestly need to have uber sized images to either prove a point, or display some kind of internetz rly message... Why bother? The image hosting idea is a good one to save on the bandwidth, but 200 x 400 sized avatars, blah that's ridiculous, and unnecessary!

Signatures I've found are sometimes a hinderence and sometimes useful. When well constructed, they don't look that ugly, but that is of course up the the member. So I am indifferent on that one.

No, this is suppose to be about the forums and a large majority of people who commonly post on the forums are not reviewers on the review site, let alone contributing ones.

The main reason for larger avatars is simply so we can show off whatever we want to... we better, and it's more fun to have a larger avatar. And if this hosting on photobucket/imageshack/tinypic thing really works well then I say definitely go with it. I don't think avatar sizes above 160x160 are necessary, I'd be happy to get at least 120x120.

I don't personally use the review site, but I think it's a good idea to integrate it more with the forums, and as for something to invigorate the forums with more posting perhaps you could offer premium features on sputnik for say so many $, or an equivalent number of posts on the forums per month.

As for monetising the site in general thats a whole other discussion with lots of points to be made and there are a lot of things you could do but we can save that for another time.

You should make someone a full admin, preferably someone with technical knowledge of how things work, if thats Jelle then fine, I realise theres a lack of people around with actual technical expertise but someone who can use the built in tachy/other features would be awesome. For those not in the know, tachy is like a global ignore, so an admin could place a problem user in tachy and their posts wouldn't be seen by anyone else, and they remain oblivious to said tachying.

I know people say that IP bans don't work but it's my opinion (based on my experiences) that they will work eventually, it's not like its tiring for you or another admin to go and wildcard ban someone. Posting from a proxy is tiresome and everyone will give up at some point. There was some talk about it slowing down the server but i can't see why that would happen, unless its a vbulletin problem? What about using .htaccess for the same thing then? Not that I think there is anyone specifically needing IP banned right now, its just useful in some cases.

There's nothing wrong with img tags, the xss I found in posts a while ago was using the url tags (which you customised I think?) so the img tags were just an unwitting accomplice to the url tags failure if you like.

Edit: I think when you register on the review site its impossible to post on the forums, or at least that was the case a little while ago. Something to do with the email validation usergroup, the review site email confirmation hardly ever comes and when it does you are only confirmed for the review site and not the forums so you can't post here.

spoiler tags in media forum is something i'd love to see. i'd also like it if being logged in at the forums means you're also logged in at the review site, and vice versa. not a huge thing, but it would be nice not having to log in again if i just want to hop over to the review site briefly (which is something i do often).

R&M could really use a new mod, Vince isn't on much b/c he has no internet right now, Riva is on a good deal but he travels a lot it seems, and 3545235235 doesn't exist on these forums right now. Sometimes Tojes and Wish drop in to help but they aren't official RM mods so they don't stick around there much.
