These seem to be relatively underused (also by me). I'm considering:

1) Moving them to a separate page under the profile, similar to lists.
2) Displaying 5 or 6 entries at once
3) Improving the comments mechanism
4) Actually linking back to blogs from tagged albums/bands
5) Having a developed blog page showing recent posts and the most recent comments.

Thoughts? Would anyone actually use this? It seems like music related blogs are used quite heavily in a few other sites (for instance, mog.com)

I think they definitely need to have a little more clout on the site. Maybe have featured blogs for users that mods/staff pick, and make it so staff blogs are featured as columns or features or something. This would go well with DFelon's subpage idea. The blogs can be a whole opinion/editorial section of the site.

though some people are obviously going to be silly with the blogs once they get more attention on the site. You must remember some of those journals when they used to be featured on the main page

Idea 5 is good. If you look at how last.fm does it, their lists and journals are pretty much one and the same. So perhaps shift the emphasis to blogs (which ideally will have connections to band pages, tags, albums, etc...)
