Does anybody feel that a page on Wikipedia might benefit the number of visitors and, therefore, hits?

Absolutely, but due to idiots messing up the wiki page, it was removed entirely.

could we get it back if we asked nicely?
No. We've tried.
Besides, we get a lot of traffic from Wikipedia because they still allow us to link to staff reviews. Unfortunately, an entire page is out of the question for a slew of reasons, most of which are already mentioned above.

but sputnik is user submitted so why are we on wikipedia?
kinda dumb.
Everything in the world is user-submitted, even the Nikes those poor Asian boys that make a quarter a day submit to America!
Besides, some of the staff and quite a few contributors are immensely talented. You're just immensely useless.

Sputnikmusic isn't eligible for inclusion on wikipedia until the site has significant exposure in mainstream/print media. So I guess if you guys want the site on wikipedia you should petition your local papers and whatnot.

That sounds really...dumb. I mean do you think the type of people that would visit sputnik are the type of people that would read a newspaper?

There are plenty of sites without exposure to print media that are bio'd on wikipedia. Unfortunate.

If that is the official reason that sounds like crap to me. Sounds like a politically correct excuse hiding what is more likely to be the truth, which is what mx said in post#3.
I know mx, Jom & Dave probably already know this, but a review link on Wikipedia is how I arrived at this website and I'm certain I wouldn't be the only one. I personally am unsure how much an actual sputnikmusic page on wiki would do, but I suppose what my main point is to do whatever needs to be done to link every staff album review there.

Well it's what they told us when they deleted the page.
We'd love to have every review linked on wikipedia, but unfortunately there's an obvious conflict of interest if we do it. Sputnik will only be added to wikipedia pages if uninterested people deem us worthy.
I pushed hard to keep the page after I completely re-wrote it and made sure it was acceptable to Wikipedia's crazy ridiculous acronym-laden guidelines, but they said that Sputnikmusic has no notoriety... or something. Two moderators said they had never heard of it. I wanted to be like, "Well, no ****, fatass, you scour Wikipedia all day and don't visit any other sites" but that would have been a bad play on my part.
So, ultimately, we have to gain notoriety... or something. Whatever. We have to get average joe to be all like "man those guys have good reviews." Conflict of interest is lame albeit understandable, but Wikipedia has a raging boner for it.

If users hadnt destroyed our wiki page repeatedly there would be no problem with it.

The way I read that, it seems to make it pretty clear that all staff reviews can be linked to a wiki album page.

Those ****ing bitches! We're referenced for like 260 album reviews and ratings, and are not "notorious enough"? Idiots...
To add a valid point to this revive of a kinda old thread: I have seen it before that pages on Wikipedia were locked because of dispute over the contents, or certain groups constantly altering key parts of the article (Example: Nazis altering the article on Holocaust in the German Wikipedia, stating it never happened). Maybe we could establish something like that for a Sputnik Page?
Also: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sputnikmusic
EDIT: Does anyone, by any chance, a copy of the Wiki-page flying around? I would like to put the stuff up on the German Wiki, and maybe other folks could to that in the Spanish etc as well.

Maybe an argument for Sputnik's notoriety could be through what is currently MXTabs. Because this is the predecessor, it should be able to pull from the notoriety of mxtabs which does have a page.

Yep it i CD, but the nerds who run the forum would be happy to sell out a page for a large enough "donation", but you're right, it is basically paid advertising.
