Should Brett Farve return to the Packers?
My biggest concerns aren't with Farve, they're with ESPN. I've never been more upset with these bastards, and I mean bastards, who are putting an unprecedented amount of pressure on the quarterback to return. They published a BS story not too long ago, declared rumor by Farve, and then severely downplayed it so they wouldn't look like idiots.
Here's a recent story:
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-8-81/Packers-need-to-decide-on-Favre-before-camp.html
There wasn't controversey before ESPN created it themselves. I've noticed that the NFL in particular has this disease (NBA does it a lot), where they create the controversey, and then discuss it at length. "What are the impacts of us talking about this situation?" is now acceptable discussion for a pregame talk.
Anyway, I think this is a personal decision for Farve and that ESPN should give it a rest. I don't think anyone would object to his return. Farve probably knows that but he's got his own life to manage. He's not being selfish (as far as I know) as he's delivered so many great years to the game, most recently, with a former powerhouse that has recently struggled.
Besides, if he comes back, he'll suffer tremendously from the Madden video game curse, right?
I don't think ESPN has as much to do with this as you think they do. They report it because its their job, and this story isn't about 3 of the teams in the AL East or the New England Patriots so it will pass.
About Farve, of course he should stay away from the Packers. They owe him absolutely nothing and he would only halt Aaron Roger's development further by forcing him to the bench for another season. If he wants to come back so badly he should go to the Falcons (since he wouldn't go to another NFC North team) where he was originally drafted. Matt Ryan could use guidance and Farve would find a place to play on Sunday.
Hasn't this same story been in the news this time of year 3 years in a row?

I remember watching Sports Center and the headline was "Bad chemistry in Dallas?" and they were talking about how Romo and Owens might not be getting along. The host went to John Clayton asking that question and Clayton was like "...No not at all. In fact they're doing very well together." The entire show they kept teasing this 4 second clip that lead to nothing.

Well, ya. That way most people will watch the entire program waiting to hear about that story.

There was no story though! They hyped this thing up and then it was totally dismissed on the spot.

Yep, but how many people do you think sat through the whole show waiting to hear about Romo and Owens, then got pissed off when they realized they wasted 2 hours of their life for nothing.
I would guess millions. And Sportscenter's ratings just shot through the roof.

Honestly I would like him to return cause he's really good. But if he returns, it won't be with the Packers and I find really gay that he left like 2-3 months ago and return. He made a big conference and was crying and 2 months after : Oh I wanna play again! Well..

It would be unreal seeing him in a different uniform.

He needs to stay gone. So few players go the Barry Sanders esque route and really wear out their welcome. His legacy is sealed and I'm sure he has enough money to never work again. The risks really outweigh the awards.
But don't tell that to Michael Jordan or Jerry Rice.

let me put this in a green bay context:
everyone here thinks that brett has had his chance to come back earlier. you just don't decide to show up to training camp on the last possible day. you don't just leave the packers board hanging on a limb for months and then announce your retirement in april (for the past four years)
as much as i loved seeing brett play my whole life, he needs to stick to his word and his word to the packers. the packers have to move on. as much as he's done for this city (you really ought to have seen this place before the packers got good in the early 90s). the residents and the organization can never pay him back, but we can't just open up to his every wish
and by the way, when i heard he retired, it was announced that his nametag in the locker room was never going to be removed. just last night, i heard that favre never personally used that locker. he had his own separate room for dressing and everything. he's been doing that for years. it was kind disguisting for both the packers and favre.

I love Brett's energy, but he will get hurt this year especially playing with the crappy jets... :(

no it just means he'll have more interceptions this year than any other year in his career, due to his tendency to get rid of the ball if he's feeling pressure, trying to force a completion where there is no chance
