I still remember 4 years ago when Carlos Arroyo pretty much singlehandedly destroyed the US. It was embarrassing.

This time around, Germany is going to have a strong team with Kaman and Norwitzki. Argentina, Lithuania, and Greece should all be strong. If the US isn't playing harmoniously, they won't win gold.

the volleyball girls are all tattood up and kinda manly. And the gymnists are like 12. For the quality of athletic competition though I might watch some of the gymnastics, diving, and swimming. Along with basketball, martial arts, etc.

team USA is 114-5 all time in basketball, lol.

and that first loss wasnt even fair!

and three of those losses happened in the last decade!

its insane. but its also a testament to the other teams that superior talent can be beaten if they dont work well together. hopefully they'll get the gold this time, and not have another "beat the first ten teams by 60+ points then lose in the final round anyway"

yeah do World Cup-caliber countries just not send their best players? is it like baseball where non-US teams win because its the middle of the MLB season and we cant be sending an all-star lineup there?

Poet

I think that's the case. The U.S have like no one from their main team over there (correct me if I am wrong.), but Ronaldinho is playing for Brazil.

For the men's football in the Olympics, the teams must be made up of players under 23 years of age with a maximum of three players over 23 allowed.

And I'll be sure to follow the swimming, track and field and, if they show it on TV, triathlon.

USA brought over a few of the players from the main team. Some of them don't start, so this is their chance to prove themselves.

Athletics I'll glued to like every year. With football its not mandatory for a player to play fr the olympic team (or atleast thats what barca was arguing not wanting Messi to go). A few of the english teams have let their players go off like Jo who recently signed for Man City.

lol. So much for "smash[ing]" the American relay team. Enjoy your silver!

The guy who did that last leg for you Yanks had the best swim I've ever seen, ever.

taylormemer

Yeah, the water has more ability to stabilize before the return on their consecutive laps. You'll notice by the time they've made it back to say... half way the water is nice and undisturbed. They also put a lot of additives into the water to make it "thinner" sort of like when you place your hand into soapy water, you'll find its much slipperier.

looks like the opening ceremony wasn't as amazing as it seemed

heard about this on the news earlier but this is the only really detailed article i could find

http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/olympics/article.html?in_article_id=260852&in_page_id=310

Olympic organizers refused to let a seven-year-old sing at the opening ceremony because she was too chubby, it has been revealed.

Lin Miako, the little girl who stole the show on Friday, did not actually sing a note and was miming throughout.

Instead, the voice heard by millions around the world was that of seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was ditched from the ceremony because of her chubby face and uneven teeth.

Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony, said: 'The reason why little Yang was not chosen to appear was because we wanted to project the right image, we were thinking about what was best for the nation.

'The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression.

'Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects. But in terms of voice, Yang Peiyi is perfect, each member of our team agreed.'

Organizers also admitted parts of the lavish opening ceremony were pre-recorded.

The ceremony won rave reviews around the world for its use of fireworks and a series of perfectly choreographed sequences, watched by an estimated 1 billion people.

Some of the fireworks though did not actually go off that night.

'Some footage had been produced before the opening ceremony to provide theatrical effect,' Beijing Games Executive Vice President Wang Wei said.

Among the sections that were pre-produced were parts of a stunning fireworks display across the city, a series of fireworks "footprints" that led to the Bird's Nest stadium where the four-hour extravaganza was staged.

A night-time aerial shot traced the consecutive explosions on the ground as they approached the stadium.

'There were footprints of fireworks,' Wang added.

'Some of them were genuinely produced. Some maybe were used from previously recorded material.'

kind of takes away some of the magic eh

Well, on a fast hardcourt like in Beijing, Blake can beat anyone if he's on his game. With that said, Fed had like 14 winners to 56 unforced errors, so he basically gave it to James. Federer hasn't been himself all year....after putting up the most dominant 3-4 year stretch in tennis history, he's pretty much falling apart....losing to guys he's hardly ever lost to like Blake, Roddick, Mardy Fish, Karlovic, etc. Nadal smacking him around at the French and Wimbledon seems to have shattered his confidence....he might be done. We'll see.
