People who accept the mainstream everything are most likely - as far as I have observed - to either be very open-minded about music and knowledgeable of people or simply just not very "into" music - "into music" meaning they actively seek out new music and are critical about it.

The people who reject the mainstream everything are wholly insecure about their taste and feel that appreciation of mainstream music is indirectly an affront on their peculiarity and rarity of taste, and thus they do not understand that there are alternative approaches to the appreciation of music, and by extension those people are also less likely to understand people in the general, for if you understand the people you understand their music.
