okay i am listening to the song "exoskeleton" and i will give you an honest critique.
it is really boring. it just sounds like guitar and drums... the recording quality is absolutely terrible, which normally isn't a problem for us lo-fi rock fans. but when it's combined with an awful guitar tone and lack of focus., it loses any of the charm of the DIY ethic. it just sounds like someone ****ing around on a guitar with a drummer instead of a metronome. there's nothing wrong with just picking up a guitar and noodling, but for God's sakes don't record it and call it a song.
also you spelled "rhythm" wrong, which is appropriate as the word is a mystery to you.

shall we turn this into a showcase your band thread? This way Magnum doesn't get ripped apart for 2-3 pages

lol...
gy!be and explosions in the sky were on that list too.
I didn't type up the stuff on the side, my bandmate did.
Sorry about the recording quality... we don't have the best equipment; generally, we sound better live.

critique
i had to really work to listen to most of a song. there was no drive, intensity, apparent idea, and it didnt really sound like you guys wanted to be playing instruments in the first place. oh yeah it was terribly sloppy as well.

magnum 13 - the first song i listened to was mzb5. it reminded me a little of this band some of my friends made a while back. when they first started playing together, instead of trying to play easier songs like ccr or nirvana covers they tried to play yngwie and dream theater type stuff. they started out trying to be too technical and therefore didn't develop the basic things you need for a band no matter what style of music you play. i would suggest maybe trying some more basic stuff just to try to get tight with the drummer. i would also suggest maybe working more on the songs before you record them. im not sure if you do this but i remember when i first had the equipment and capacity to record i would just make up a song really quick, just to record it. if you take more time working on songs i think you will have a better end product.
other than all that, i thought the guitar on deceptions was pretty cool. to me it sounded kind of like something from spiderland or something like that. the drums seemed a little off, but the guitar sounded cool. also, props for having michael angelo on your top friends. seeing as how he played guitar on one of the funniest albums ever recorded (nitro - o.f.r.) i think thats worth something.

this is really awkward. you guys either have a difficult time staying in tempo with each other or are playing so tentatively that it's messing you up a lot. regardless, this is pretty rough. at best it sounds like these might be good initial ideas for something bigger or a little more thought out but not much more.

Experimental/Ambient/ and a little jazzy. It's all on the spot improv, but for the most part, we keep it organized. Everything is free to download too (in case you actually like it)
