ok so i wrote a review for the new disturbed album, and apparently it sucked because jom wrote one himself, how do i see what comments people gave me so i can take their constructive criticism and use it to my advantage?

Non-staff have to wait until the official release date and/or provide a link to a legitimate stream. In all fairness, this is outlined in the guidelines. It was a fine review, but had to be removed because reviewing leaks is weaksauce. I received an advance copy.

You should write as you feel fit. It will take you a couple reviews before you find your writing niche in terms of how you want to utilize this site. The trick is to keep writing and practicing; reviewing here will hopefully help you become a better writer and bolster your vocabulary, amongst other things.

I still catch a lot of flak for my reviews to this day, and while I read and consider all criticism (good and bad), my blueprint stays pretty much the same because it's what I'm most comfortable with. Most people will be helpful/constructive, but if you get the vibe that someone isn't being very helpful/constructive, chances are they aren't, so it's safe to say you can ignore what they have to say.

haha i think u hit it right on the nail!!! my vocabulary is very limited, its not good, its just my english teacher isnt that good and i end up not learning much in his class, vocab included. I mean my history teacher has taught me a lot, but i just have trouble coming up with words that perfectly explain something, by the way your review was awesome, much better than mine.

The best way to learn vocab is always by reading. Have a look at some of the staff reviewers' histories (Robert Crumb is always the best place to start) and see how they describe music, instruments, themes, moods etc. Look at reviews for albums that are similar to the ones you intend to review- i.e. for Disturbed look for other modern heavy rock bands- and see how people talk about those in particular.

Also, don't be discouraged by criticism, particularly as there's a few users around here who seem to get a kick out of giving non-constructive criticism (and never taking it themselves). You'll probably be able to pick them out yourself after a while.
