It is a gift I know
A moment of bliss that we hold
A firecracker flash of light then on
To the next plane soul remain
Come along if you dare
It's gonna be that you're scared
Lovely life I thank you
For the reason to see the pain through

Light a candle for the dead
The wick is burning returning what we have
It's who we are
We'll reach you if you're beyond the furthest star

Don't give up the fight to stay alive and even if
you have to
Find the reason of another's pain if they lose you
If not for your self then those around who care
like I do
One day you'll see the clear blue

Beyond the Gray Sky
Light a candle...
The wick...
It's who we are...

One day you'll see the clear blue
Beyond the Gray Sky

I can't believe you didn't call
What made you want to end it all
Wasn't there something I should have tried
To help you see beyond the gray sky

It's been a while since I've listened to these guys. A review of the lyrics of their songs reveals the true meanings I never cared to look to, their reggea sound was all I was interested in.

Clearly this is a song towards a friend who's committed suicide. The first stanza describes life as a gift, naturally scary, and short, but worth while to see through the pains. He dares the subject to live on, and thanks life for the "blue skies."

"Light a candle" pays homage to the dead, but its burning also symbolizes the way our bodies return to dust. And no matter how far you've gone, or how much you succeeded in life, you too will return to the earth. "We'll reach you if your beyond the furthest star."

"Don't give up the fight," and "one day you'll see the clear blue" gives hope. And even if hope isn't enough, to stay alive for those who care, not to be so selfish to bring one's troubles to an end and cause their loved ones great pain.

Next two stanza restate the previous said for musical value. Enter guitar solo.

And the bridge almost brings out a regret from the writer. Like he didn't see it coming, but should have. The vocals are changed and the music intensifies, but it ends in a ritardando on this bridge, it doesn't return to the chorus. The drums go into a fill that ends on the low tom, and with no crash/bass or distinct beat. This ending makes the song feel like its been cut too soon, just like the subject's life.

I come from the drum forums, and don't know if you guys do analysis of songs, but I thought it would be helpful to take a look at other's work and study it. Plus I do this in spare time for fun.
