Why do some many people have such a strong hatred for breakdowns?

Why do some many people have such a strong hatred for breakdowns?
Because most of the time it kills the melodicness in the song...I still like some breakdowns, but some bands over do it.

Breakdowns can be awesome when not used 3000 times a song...I feel 2999 is enough

people on this site hate them when they are overused or just plain unnecessary
bands like winds of plague and abrb just use them to fill time and try and sound cool
but they end up overusing them so much it just gets dumb, plus there's only so many ways you can time palm mutes before they all start sounding the same

Since ABRB was mentioned, I'm gonna say that I do like the breakdown at the end of Beneath the Surface, and both breakdowns in Hester Prynne.
I guess I'm a bad person now.

some breakdowns are amazing, others are poorly placed and written
as blood runs black really doesn't use that many breakdowns in comparison to other bands, yet their breakdowns blow dick because they're so drawn out and monotonous
beans
05-26-2008, 08:33 PM
i guess imo a breakdown must serve something to the song by being there
not just being there to take up 30 seconds that the band didnt know how to fill

i disagree
a lot of breakdowns kill momentum in a song, but I do enjoy them, especially non-core ones

That's pretty much it.
It sounds great if the breakdown is a great riff in itself and there's a good build up to it.

As Blood Runs Black have awful breakdowns.
They get into a cool groove and then they break and slooooow it waaaaaay doooooown and then it sounds absolutely hysterical.

In the local scene around here, if you have "sick breakdowns bro" you are c*ckworshipped. I think im a lil biased because of the people who throwdown at shows and ruin it for innocent bystanders.

LOL, there is NO way that band is good, look at them.
Please though, I would like to get a good laugh today, so I will take a listen to them later so I can feel good about myself.
Gotta go to work now.
Wait, I did listen real quick. It's funny, I can take one look at a band and know how crappy they're going to be. wow, just terrible. Hey, at least they look trendy. Yeah, if you ever see a kid in a Hollister shirt and describe the music he plays as Death Metal, thats a good sign...
