Okay, so this is a multi-purpose thread. First off, The Human Abstract. I just wanted to see if anyone else here was interested in them and I'm posting this here because I found it difficult to stick them in a specific genre. I personally think Nocturne is a great album, full of technicality but not short on brutality, but I guess the part that remains hit or miss is the instrumental tracks; either you dig them or you don't.

Secondly, I'd like to introduce everyone to a band that's on the climb in Canadian underground metal, Hard Shell Invader. All of them, save for the vocalist are close pals of mine, so I felt obliged to, ugh, advertise them so to speak. Constructive criticism would be appreciated, as well. :smoke:

tHA is really good. I'll check out the other band at some point when I have speakers.

Don't even try to tell me that you don't own a pair of headphones!

I joke, check them out when you can.

hardshell invader is real good for a bunch of high school students. Definately worth the listen because they are pretty good especially since its their first shot at recording their own music. Very Dedicated also.

human abstract played some of thier new material at the take action tour when i saw them, and with thier new guitar player and keyboardist, my interest is nigh for thier new album

I was at work. I'm at home now, but their profile is under maintenance.

I think Human Abstract is quite solid, not superb though. They have pretty cool sweeps though.

i saw THA during the take action tour and to me it was just too much sweeping. i can understand a little bit but it was a bit too much. some songs i like

Or just not having a bad vocalist...

Hard Shell Invader actually sound surprisingly decent, quite a few good ideas, though the vocalist is a bit hit and miss.

Cheers for that, I'll keep an eye out on them.

THA lost their annoying one-trick pony guitarist so hopefully they'll be a little less one dimensional. But I watched a studio-video and their current guitarist laid down a solo that was pretty terrible, so who knows.

And their vocalist definitely needs to turn the suck down a couple of notches. Pretty sure his mic wasn't even plugged in when I saw them (and their performance was better for it).

im hoping that as well, when i saw them with thier new guy he definitely seemed like he had some chops about him

and when i saw thier singer he did an amazing job or some reason, i was really suprised, expecting to hear more of the same stuff that plagued thier album and he held his own. it was a nice suprise live. but i agree he needs to get his **** down for thier new release

Is their stuff still pretty heavy?

oh yes, still very much along the lines of the stuff they created on nocturne, not as many arpeggios in the songs that i heard but enough to make you appreciate that these guys can play

and now the addition of their keyboard player adds a level of atomsphere to their music. altogether it sounds effing amazing
im just holding out to see if the vocals come up lacking again

I really love THA. The vocalist is so amazing even if some of his parts are awkward sounding. They actually pull off the spastic tech sound without making it seem over the top.

How about the new guitarist? I bet he's nowhere as good as A.J. was.

Calling "AJ" good is kind of misleading, though. He was technically amazing, especially considering he'd only been playing for a few years, but he was a disaster creatively. He knew how to do one thing well and he did it incessantly.

Yah. He may not be very creative, but even live, he plays amazing technical stuff. His tapping is intense. But whatever. He wants to play softer stuff now so I don't care anymore.

But his guitar work always felt shallow. It was impressive, but it was like a cop-out when they hit a dead end in the song. He was dead on when I saw them though.

All I know is that he was great live, and when he went into one of his solos, the crowd went crazy because his fingers were flying all over that guitar.

My guitarist just got really good at doing sweeps, so he does them in this song that we wrote making fun of metal stereotypes, it's really funny.
