This seems more like the stuff of wingnuttery, brought out by a quasi-respectable NYU figure.
Anyway you can learn about this guy's allegations here: http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/11164
I think that it (the guy's book) is a politically motivated fear peace catering to the conspiracy crowd but hey maybe someone will disagree.

This is an interesting interview. I don't think it's a conspiracy, and I don't think this guy is implying it is, no more than any other questionable group. It's an odd group if it's real, but not that scary or anything.

I think it would be wrong to take anybody seriously when he wears a checkered green shirt and a pink tie.

That's just the interviewer.

The thing is that the guy is peddling it as something scary.

Are we watching the same interview? I don't really see this as fear mongering. He's being highly critical of the organization, but I don't think he's saying it has enough influence to be scary.

Did you get to the godwin part? It's been a day since I watched it but still I think it gets more harsh, in terms of his accusations, as it progresses. Basically "this is a crypto fascist group that dominates US politics"

Okay, I'm getting into more serious stuff and shifting to your side a bit more. I still think this is an interesting interview, and a legitimate enough look at the group.

Yeah, I agree that it's an interesting interview. If you want another one, and a much headier subject, scroll back to the one on Uganda.

I might check it out later if I have time to actually put thought into it.
The thing with groups like this is that while it's irrational to fear this ideology because it's secretly controlling America, but in my opinion the ideology itself really is terrifying.

One of his big flaws, intellectually, is conflating what might've been the early days of the group with what it became. It'd be like calling Robert Byrd a Klansman. Yeah, he was one, but he isn't anymore.

But if a liberal is a former member of the Weather Underground, it's a big deal.

Fair enough. I'm not really defending him. He's talking far too black and white.

Robert Byrd is a Democrat. Byrd renounced racism and the Klan. Ayers celebrates having killed people and wishes he could've killed more. He should be in a jail cell, for the rest of his life.
