View Full Version : WoW Rehab, should I get Oblivion?
I am trying to stop playing world of warcraft and I think something like Oblivion which is apparently amazing, is it worth it and will it stop me wasting £9 a month on ruining my life?

Yeah get Oblivion, it doesn't have online though so it probably doesn't have as much replay value as WOW.

Definately get it. Its just been re-released in the xbox classic range for about 15 bones. Its a classic game that will last you a long time.

Eh. I got bored with Oblivion after 9 hours. but I used cheats. But I guess if you like games like morrowind, then go for it.

I put about 100 hours into Oblivion over in between semesters last year, good stuff!
I hate the monster scaling though, where as you level up the monsters level up too, so you can never dominate :(. Also for such a big place there aren't many people!
It seems that I am definitely going to get it, especially seeing as I have 70s in horde and alliance, wow it got old really quick, even when I made my own private server where I am admin. Is Oblivion as great as everyone makes out?

I played Oblivion and no its not really a good substitute for WOW. I would simply just quit WOW and take up something more real. As in something that involves you not sitting at the computer.
Well seeing as this is a musician forum I guess I do, I just think that Oblivion looks so much better spells and physics and mods wise.

Oblivion by itself is actually huge PoS. You need to get lots of mods to improve the game, but once you do, the game becomes amazing.
Mods like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul for example.
Ah yes I believe I will be installing mods as soon as I get it just because I am that kind of guy, especially the pokeball one haha. I am just wondering can you like drop items out of your inventory and they become physical objects that you can move around? Because I will want to set stuff up in a house.

Oblivion is good.
it's pretty massive too. Though I haven't played it properly in about a year, I can't bring myself to trade it in, because I know I'm going to go back to it eventually.
I'm just overly obsessed with Guitar Hero right now.

Do people really have that hard of a time quitting WoW? I played for ~6 months straight and just quit cold turkey last week. I came to the conclusion that it was taking over my life, though, seeing as I never left my room. :(
I loved Oblivion when I played it, though.

Go buy Gears of War.
I do not have a 360 so I would not be able to do much with it.

Gears of War is on pc now.
Yeah oh well I do not want to get that, not my thing to be honest. I want to get Oblivion for the free roaming and physics and mods anyway.

Yeah I don't like it too much either, a lot of people like it but I like Western rpgs better like Oblivion and first person shooters.
Yeah, and of course I want to use the pokeballs mod on guards xD.

I never beat it because I only ever played it at my friend's house, and I found doing the side quests more entertaining, so I put the main storyline off for a while.
Then, my friend sold it, and all I said was "WHYYYYYYY?"
It has been a long time since I have sat down and seriously played a console game, considering that is what I grew up on.

Yeah I tend to be OCD about beating main quests before I do side quests, in general. The Main quests are pretty short compared to the near infinite amount to side quest.

the thing is with oblivion you cant really "beat" the game, as the main quest is but a small fraction of the game. theres all the smaller quests to do and the DLC to do (shivering isles = w00tzorz x100) its a game that never gets old, besides, when you get bored of your character, you can always swap him/her out for a different one :)

Only get WoW if you want to lose your girlfriend and social life and any other hobbies you have. Seriously it is good but do not play it ever! What is morrowind like in comparison to oblivion?

oh wel thanks for the heads up ;) i aint losing my girlfriend for nothing
morrowind is much, admittedly, worse looking than oblivion but its far more involving, theres 3 main quests (see game of the year edition) and its much harder ffom the get-go, which in my opinion makes it a better game, unfortunately it doesnt play on xbox 360 :'( but aparently the PC versions game editor has produced some seriously cool stuff, theres a whole website full of user-made downloads for it, seriously man give it a go

Morrowind's good but very very annoying...the journal is probably the shitties one in the history of video games...Oblivion fixed that problem pretty much and it looks so darn perty it's a must get.
I beat evry side quest (Assassin's Guild is the ****) and then when i got to the main quest and lost all my stuff, i almost killed myself with how hard it got. It wasn't worth it to continue so i never did...maybe i'll start the game again and just do the main quest so i can finally beat it...maybe not.
My problem in Oblivion will be the fact I will have to use Oldblivion but still that does nto matter so much, I am actually mostly buying the game for some of the badass mods.

Yeah, I read that it has something like 400 hours worth of side quests. I don't quite remember the actual amount.
One of my other friends beat the main quest and was like "THAT'S IT?!" He didn't even bother doing a majority of the side quest. -.-
I would just like to say great avatar Pluperfect Arson. Does anyone know if you can go to the main city as soon as you finish the tutorial?

I still haven't done the main quest, too many damn oblivion gates got boring.
So I instead did the Fighter's guild and Mage Guild quests on my Paladin-esque character. Then I ventured into Morrowind (using the Morroblivion mod)
Do you need tes 3: morrowind to use that morroblivion because it sounds very interesting!
FatalEnergy
05-19-2008, 11:53 AM
Yeah, how does that Morroblivion mod work?
Link?
Oblivion is awesome and isn't an online game so it doesn't have near as much potential to destroy your life
But get Morrowind instead because it's way better than Oblivion.

Morrowind just seemed way too clunky for me and I don't know. I remember I made a new character started out on the Fighter's Guild and couldn't beat the first quest. Killing three rats even with all this awesome armor and weapons I stole. It just seemed unrealistic. I should give it another try though. Morrowind is much cooler place than Cyrrodil.

I can't believe all the people who like oblivion here. That was such a poorly crafted game; essays could be written on all of the wrongs of oblivion. This kind of positive response to oblivion just shows how pretty graphics and cheap tricks are all that is needed to win the adoration of the witless consumer.
If you want to stop playing WoW, turn the ****ing game off. Get a life.

95% of the gaming community gets off on madden and has never played a true "classic" game. The majority of Oblivion players have probably never even heard of Daggerfall, Arena, or any of the titles leading up to their beloved Oblivion, totally oblivious of the fact that a 20 year old game is in many ways better than the modern one they love. I don't care if they enjoy it, it just bugs me when they say it's "amazing" or "groundbreaking" when in reality it's actually quite a large step backwards.
I guess it would be easier to say the majority of the people in the world are idiots, so why would the video game community be any different?

lololol penis.
I'm mildly amazed a mod hasn't banned and removed that post yet. Anyways, tbh, I've only played Oblivion for a little bit on a friends 360 and it was alright, but then I've played Mirrowind a lot more on my PC and I enjoyed Mirrowind more, but that's very likely just because of how much more I've played it.

No dude, Morrowind is a much better game. The storyline is much more engaging and the environment is more thought out and detailed(and by detailed I don't mean beautified with repetitive, criss-crossed animations of waving grass).

Mhm, I know Oblivion is obviously much better looking but I didn't really know completely which had better gameplay. I enjoy Mirrowind better than I did with Oblivion anyways. Not to mention idk of my laptop could run Oblivion, or if the game is even for PC lol.

Oblivion has some advantages, such as a much improved combat system and graphics, which are nice, but what they sacrificed to appeal to a larger audience is selling out, pure and simple. They gave up many things that made the series great, and betrayed their loyal fan base in many ways, most shamefully by carelessly disregarding cannon.
When you ask which has better game play, you have to know what makes good gamplay. Smooth controls? Partly, but immersing the user into a unique universe and making them feel like part of something much grander than life is what made the great games great, and oblivion fails to do this with a trite storyline and forgettable characters.
I could go on and on but I have to go now.

i don't think anyone thinks oblivion is a good game

I enjoy Mirrowind, but my only issue is that I've gotten myself stuck and can't seem to move on past anything inside Balmora.. It seems like all the Mini-Quests are becoming too hard and I'm stuck on the stupid Main Quest 'cause I have **** armour and I still haven't mastered the combat system.

That makes no sense to quite playing WoW because it is ruining your life by trying to find another computer game. You might as well just keep playing WoW, or, here's an idea, DON'T PLAY ANY GAME!
