Juno was okay, I didn't really like the music.
I also liked Lost in Translation, but I don't remember the music.
From this I can surmise that indie music in movies sucks.

movies that appeal to an indie crowd in general tend to be not very good
and this is coming from someone who loves indie music

i personally enjoy those movies, not that they are the best written movies out there .
The movies are fine, it's just trying to discuss the whole indie rock thing is something that's never going to go well on this forum.

What about Napoleon Dynamite?
Maybe I'm wrong about this Indie stuff, but those songs seem to fit the genre.

As for Juno, I thought the movie was good. I think if they used one-hit wonders in the background it would have ruined the movie. Oh, and that guys' jingle was horrible.
Indie music is any kind of music released on an independent label.

Meh, that's not really the way the word is used now in the popular consensus.

I liked the song that played during the opening credits.
I think it was the only song I liked in the movie, come to think of it.

I have never seen a worse movie than Juno. Some movies are just bad, ok. But this movie goes above and beyond, and actually seems to make an effort. A lot of pseudo intellectual young people like it because they wish they could be that quirky, when in reality, if I saw a person like Juno in real life, I'd kick her in her pregnant gut.
And WTF how could you not give Michael Cera and Jason Bateman at least one scene together?
I'm sorry, none of that was about music, but Juno sucks, and none of those other movies mentioned in this thread are very good either.
btw, heres Juno all fixed up: http://www.bspcn.com/2008/04/20/if-juno-was-10-times-shorter-and-100-times-more-honest/

pretty much the same reason how the definition of pop music has changed.
Led Zeppelin could be considered Indie because back then Atlantic was an independent label.

05-16-2008, 03:58 PM
You guys have to understand that anybody who is into indie music will act with the same level of pretentiousness in all parts of their life. So trying to tell an indie fan that the definition has changed and all that is really like trying to stop an iceberg.

Of course that movie wasn't realistic, just like every other movie. Give me a movie that is awesome and 100% realistic. But obviously it isn't for everybody. I hated superbad, thought it was lame (other than the scenes with the officers).
And Indie has been taken out of context...thats why I was so confused by it.

JASON BATEMAN
Hey Ellen. Want to watch some indie horror films and listen to some indie music together?
ELLEN PAGE
That sounds great! I sure hope that watching the movie isn’t interrupted by me having to go puke my guts out, sweaty and hunched over the toilet.
(pause)
Just kidding, none of that crap happens in the movie. Pregnancy is easy-peasy.
JASON BATEMAN
Well, I have good news. I’m leaving Jennifer Garner.
ELLEN PAGE
Why, because your marriage to her has robbed you of your youth, which you have been reminded of since you started hanging around with me?
JASON BATEMAN
No, I just rented 13 Going On 30. I can’t even look at her now. Has she been in anything good?
ELLEN PAGE
Oh. Because if it was the other thing, then you could take notice of the fact that I remind you of your younger days despite the fact that my current predicament requires a level of maturity far beyond my years, and you could enjoy the contrast between our situations that is ironically illustrated by having us both get along so well.
JASON BATEMAN
How artistic!

They coincide. Those are just basic facts about the movie's shitiness that should be apparent to anyone watching the first time, like the really dumb lingo, the pretentiousness, the lack of Bateman/Cera reunion etc...
Cocaine
05-17-2008, 02:44 AM
The movie isn't that pretentious nor is it really that bad. Stop hopping on a bandwagon just because a lot of people like a movie you don't.
I mean, I don't love the movie. I thought the first 30 minutes or so were kind of painful to sit through. But I enjoyed it, a 7/10. The only thing worse than hype bandwagon hopping is this anti-hype bullshit. Get over it.
lack of Bateman/Cera reunion
Like this. Why is this even an issue? I'm sorry but I realize the prospect of seeing them on screen together post-Arrested Development is a juicy one but it didn't really fit anywhere into the plot, and trust me, seeing Cera and Bateman on screen but one as some guy adopting the other ones baby (instead of father/son) would have been more weird than awesome.
Against Miik!
05-17-2008, 02:54 AM
Given that there are only two choices here, liking the movie or not, its not realistic to say that those who choose not to all do so to jump on this bandwagon.
It's just not a good film, and it is made even worse by people thinking it is so great or intelligent or, whatever. I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it if it was generally agreed upon to be a bad movie.
It's kind of like you will never agree with anything I say for no reason.
Because my opinions are wrong, I know.
Cocaine
05-17-2008, 03:36 AM
No, it's because the crusade is ridiculous. Maybe it isn't generally agreed upon as a bad film for a reason? Does that mean you have to like it? Of course not. But other people obviously do.
Against Miik!
05-17-2008, 03:37 AM
Well, I feel bad for them. Expressing my dislike for the movie is just as fair as somebody coming in hear and raving about it. Its the same thing really.

05-17-2008, 05:29 AM
I enjoyed the lightness of Juno, and the acting was much better than a typical teenage drama Lindsay lohan kind of movie. The folkish soundtrack also another plus factor for the movie. But i'm not too sure how realistic it is for teenage pregnacies are a less accepted thing here.
