Ok!

So Ive been asking questions recently on drum sizes as Ive been thinking of implementing my own 'new' sized kit for sale instore. Now I need a colour you belive would work best.

Assuming we are lacquering the drums and only allow from the following colours, which do you think would be most appealling for kids aged 13-25?

I will also have the option of black hardware (rims, etc) but at best it will have to be powdercoated - Would you say stick with it, go standard chrome, or would it depend on the colour of the shell?

Thanks for all your input!

Wait so is this your own custom set line that you will sell at your store?

Sounds like a neat idea. My local drum shop (where I bought my own drums) have their own line of intermediate to pro custom drums now that's pretty rockin'.

Black/Black or Green/Chrome

I'd say avoid "beginners" colours, such as black and wine red. Go for something really different, kinda like what Ddrum is doing.

Sounds like an awesome thing your doing here, I voted for Amber, it's my personal favorite as far as finishes go, and I think it'll appeal to a larger group of people, as say the plain black would appeal to just the younger crowd, if that makes sense. I'd also say stick with the plain chrome. Be sure to keep us updated on how it all works out.

What Im starting up is a new configuration. I think there are better options around nowadays rather than just the straight old Fusion or Rock sized kits. I think ultimately a balance of both kits, with some new trends thrown in would be a the ideal kit. Ive now settled on the sizes but would love some feedback on colour.

So far its

Bass Drum: 24" x 18"
Tom's: 10" x 7" & 12" x 8"
Floor Tom: 16" x 16"
Snare: 13" x 6"

you should have made the poll a box one where you can choose multiple options imo.

are you planning on getting many of these, or just 3 or 4 in the same color?

Damo
05-14-2008, 02:25 AM
The constraints are that I will be getting about half a dozen - But all in the same colour.

Can I ask how much your going to sell these for? Also what are the quality of the shells?

I'd go with a high gloss blue stain with chrome hardware.

aw man i want one of these kits i'm obsessed with these sizes, lol

where the hell r u getting all these kits from???

and ur saying that they all have to be the same colour, so you would probably want something universally cool and in that case i'd change my vote to something like the Natural, or the Orange.

Purple ftw. I have always wanted a purple kit, and if I get a fat settlement from my car accident... I will soon have one. With black rims I'd say. You also should go purple w/ black rims.

I vote purple, thats so nice. And hardware totally depends on the finish.

Panopticon

while purple is nice, i don't think many people (especially the guys) would want a purple drumset...

That being said, I can't really make a choice till i know where the kit is coming from. Theres a lot of red finishes i like, and a lot that i don't like. It all depends on the maker.

Has it become cheaper to lacquer finish a kit now than wrapping it?
What about a sparkle wrap or sparkle lacquer?
I picked the amber BTW.....

why 24"x18" and not 20"x24"?

i think anything 20"x--* sells more from what ive seen.

Even 24x18 can have problems being controlled with miking, tuning etc.

24x20 would not be necessary.

Any samples of the colours? Green and red are both nice, but they can look pretty tacky when brighter. Purple is a drumset colour i've always wanted though, http://www.sell.com/bfm/view.x?id=2823199&uid=XGBR
a horrible set up, but the colour is beautiful

Green, purple, and yellow are very classy finishes.

Charlie Daniels
05-16-2008, 06:13 AM
I think yellow/amber would win those choices.

While purple can look really good, it's not as "in your face" as I think said demographic group like there kits.

Natural or Black would be my other choices.

abandonthetruth
05-16-2008, 11:17 AM
I chose red, mainly because i work in a drum shop up here in Canada and I'm finding the red kits just don't stay in stock. On our beginner/entry kits (very cheap drums) theres a choice of Red, Green, Silver or Black, and like 90% of the time, red is the colour of choice.

So, if the demographics at Damo's store are anything like the ones at mine, then I think, red, though its a bland colour thats seen a lot, might sell the best.

Berk

Just a question, as someone brought it up on 1st page...

Why are all beginner kits either Black, Silver or Wine Red? Those are the ugliest, lamest colors ever, especially as a wrap.

Harrow
05-17-2008, 10:08 PM
I think red can look nice in a burst or a fade finish, but yeah black in particular makes drum looks like absolute ****.

So people have incentive to spend more on a kit that has a nice colour. Simple really.

Red seems so generic imo.

Remember, these aren't kits designed specifically for the customer, the finish has to appeal to the greatest number of people. Red is a very popular color which most people find attractive. Red with black hardware could be popular (see exports).

i'd love the natural finish.

Damo
05-20-2008, 03:54 AM
Well it looks like it will be out of the Red and natural finish.

Ive decided to forego the black hardware option, as I dont think powder coating lasts the test of time.

Hopefully I can get these happening real soon, and when I do Ill post the full story for all of you to read!

without out the black hardware id pick red, but not by much. with the black hardware natural by a mile.

what kind of level are these going to be. cosidering their birch are they 'intermediate' or a bit lower?

I'm all about natural finishes. But I'm older then 25 :D

They will be intermediate quiality kits - "First upgrade" type stuff.
