The Hollow Men

We are the hollow men
This world's forgotten souls
Eyes you won't meet in dreams
Filling my heart with holes
We are the forsaken ones
Torn apart by demand
these eyes won't look down now
and you'll never understand

We sold our souls for freedom
And doing what must be done
This heartless world is dying
This war has just begun

We are the hollow men
Our eyes are still and sharp
Sunlight on broken columns
we go straight for the heart
We are the one last hope
For this perishing day
Marching on this dead land
only stopping to say

To Arms
To Arms
To Arms
This war begins today
All Rise
All Rise
All Rise
This war begins

We sold our souls for freedom
And doing what must be done
This heartless world is dying
This war has just begun
We sold our souls for freedom
And doing what must be done
This heartless world is dying
This war has just begun

How ironic it is
(after all that you've done)
That we would save you
(The ones that left us to die)
How ironic it is
(AFTER ALL THAT YOUVE DONE)
That we would save you
(THE ONES THAT LEFT US FOR DEAD)

"This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but with a whimper."
- from T.S. Eliot's "The Hollow Men"

Is there a place where we can listen to a recording of your band's version of the song? I am really interested in hearing it.

I love "The Hollow Men". Do you remember "Meant To Live" by Switchfoot? That poem was actually part of the inspiration for that song. You should read some more of Switchfoot's lyrics though, because Jon Foreman is an amazing songwriter!

It's really not a well-written or interesting piece, but it's just the kind of image-less flop that works for a lot of music.

I mean, look at this, all it is is words strung together. One out of every 8 or so has any real density of meaning to it, and all of those are just saying the same thing over and over. No unique or evocative images, no emotional wordplay, just on and on with braindead two-bit philosophy that we've heard before time and time again.

Only one in eight lines works, because he steals one in eight lines from Eliot.

Seriously, there's being influenced by something, and then just trying to re-hash it.

Well there you go.

I figured you guys would tear it to pieces, but I'm not trying to write a song that's emotionally heavy... I'm writing a song that will be fun to play and means something to me and about my area. I'm sorry that it was just braindead two-bit philosophy?

It's sauce is not of A1, but of low-grade southern style. In other words Surf.

Oh, and DonBass's prom date was asian, and she stood him up via text. GET SOME.

Is this a rap song?

lol probably the furthest thing from it. more along the lines of melodic hardcore kind of stuff. a lot of the vocals are harsh.

my prom date was also asian, but she didn't stand me up. and via text message? that's really depressing.

Idk the 1st and 3rd stanzas are kinda cool. but i'm sort of inclined to agree with the above posts- they mostly sound like random words pushed together.
