View Full Version : Want Some Drumless Tracks?

I just thought I'd share something I like to do sometimes. If you have a mac/Garageband (I don't know if you can use Garageband on a PC), just go in some of the presets and loop 'em. I like to use the bass, but you can pick from guitar/bass/strings/horns/piano and even percussion if you'd want. Then plug in some headphones and hit your drums. Fun.
However, for those of you who don't have macs, I figured I could make and upload a few loops. But first I wanted to see if anyone would actually be interested before I go ahead and make/upload a bunch of them. So, would anyone be interested? :)
And if so, what tempos would people like? I figure I'll do 3-4 tempos per track, just to give a nice variation. So what tempos would you guys want if I do this?
Also, how long should I make them? Two minutes? Five minutes? Longer? The "loops" are just about 5 seconds long themselves, but I'd assume people would want me to loop them a bunch of times first before uploading them.
Lastly, how should I upload them? I figured I'd just put it all in a rar/zip file and upload it on mediafire.com or something, but if anyone has some better suggestions let me know. I thought about using soundclick, but that will probably take much longer for me and I don't think the quality will be as good.

pretty good idea.
maybe even have a few different loops in there.
If you do this, i'll def upload audio/video of me playing to them.

I actually was going to upload a video of me playing along with one to give you guys an idea what they were like, but I couldn't get the videa/loop to line up for the life of me. I think my camera records sound like a hair slower than it's actually being played or something? I dunno.
But what do you mean by different loops? Like, mix different loops together in one track? I could do that. :)

What kind of tracks are they? If it's cool techno sounding stuff then you should totally upload some that are at high speeds. Maybe like 120-180 bpm?

i'd be super interested. although my sister has a mac so i could make loops with her comp, but i dont want to bring it to my room to practice, nor do i want to burn loops onto cds

I did something very similar to this a while back.
I recorded myself playing random ideas and put them to loops on Garageband to make a little song:

Excuse the sound quality and less than awesome playing - it was recorded using a camcorder and done over a year ago :)

Cool ideas, the loops could definitely groove more though, haha

Well, I made a bunch during school. So far, I've got about 25-ish tracks of just bass/bass synth loops. About 4-6 minutes each (I didn't know how to make them all the same time). Some tracks only have one tempo, others I gave 2-3 different tempos.
So I think I'll go through and basically do the same thing with the piano and guitar loops, and there are a few other instruments too I might do. And maybe I'll make some "songs."
But yea, there's probably gonna be a pretty hefty bunch when I'm done. I'm making this for myself too, actually, cause afterI graduate I won't have access to a mac/garageband. Also, there are hundreds and hundred of possible loops, and there's no way I'd make a loops with every one of them. So hopefully you guys will be happy with my selections. :)
And I might scan a few pages from this old "rudimental solos" book from when my dad played drums. It's actually in very good condition, considering there's dates marked through out the book from I believe 1973.

I might upload a few later tonight just on soundclick I guess. I'd have to transfer them over to this computer (not the mac) first though.

Hmm, why not just host them on filefront or some upload site? Or do you need to convert them before you upload?

Well I was planning on just uploading them all in a big ZIP file once I finished them all. I just figured if you guys wanted I could upload two or three loops first just to hear them.
Or if you guys would rather I upload them separately (bass tracks in one zip file, guitar tracks in another zip file, etc), I could do that. I actually might have to do that, depending on how big the file size turns out to be.
And yea, they're all aif files now, but it'll take 10 seconds to convert them to mp3s in itunes. I just don't feel like getting out the mac now, but I need to work on something for school later tonight so I could upload some then.

There are a lot of good drumless tracks here:
http://www.music4drums.net/
You need to register (free), then a "Songs" link appears at the top once you log on. I got quite a bit of good stuff from there.

A torrent would be ideal for this.
Find some public tracker and upload it there. I'd for sure seed it whenever my computer is on.
If not i have some webspace that i could use for this purpose.

Crappy recording done super quick. Just looped the Edgy Rock 1 guitar riff and recorded myself on a separate track, all I did was put my MBP infront of my drums, not bad for an internal mic. I was using iPod headphones so the timing is a little off...I only gave it one shot so the opening groove is me just getting a feel for the beat.
This has a lot of potential though, there are more loops than I thought. Some of them are pretty good too. I've been mixing together some loops today and tomorrow I'll try laying down some drum tracks for them. I wish I hadn't sold my drum mics...

Yup. ^
So that's basically what it is. And I think the "edgy guitar" is one that I made a "loop" for too.
