I wasn't a huge fan of Pendulum's previous album Hold Your Colour, but what it did try to do, it did well. It was full of colour and energy. By the end of the album it did become a bit tiresome and I was hoping they'd try to vary their formula a bit more on their next album, maybe slow some songs down for the listener to rest.
They've now got a new album Il Silico coming out in less than a week, and I must say on first impressions it blows. Anybody else checked it out yet? Thoughts?
I heard the first single, and yeah. Awful.

Hold Your Colour had about 3 awesome singles and a whole bunch of boring tunes to go along with, I wasn't really expecting much of a follow up in the first place.
Nah, Hold Your Colour was a good record for mainstream dance. It didn't have much of a lifespan but I was actually expecting it to be more dominated by the singles than it really was.
Just finished listening to it for the first time.
Really bland. And sounds like nu-metal in places (especially The Tempest).
I got bored of Hold Your Colour pretty quickly, so this wasn't really a surprise. Just got bored of it on the first listen and saved myself some time.

Hold your Colour was excellent but their new one is meh. Seemed like they were tryna further their boring arena rock ambitions than making a decent drum & bass album
the thing about the first was that outside of the singles, it was kind of dull. It was a better pop/dance kind of record than actual drum and bass.
There's more interesting dnb stuff out there.
But I agree on the arena rock thing; they're trying to pull in too much rock influence and it doesn't work very well.

There is more interesting dnb stuff out there, but I mean for what it intended to do, it did very well. I don't know what the singles were, but I found the majority of tracks had some appeal.
Whereas its predecessor felt alive, the new album just doesn't feel very fun at all. I don't mind the change in direction, they just did a terrible job in tacking.

YES. This is exactly what I thought when I heard Propane Nightmares and one other track that I can't remember (probably The Tempest tbh).

Yeah its not really even drum n bass to be honest. Its alright, but gets boring fast, and is really just a record for drunk students.

I agree, however certain songs do have a longer life than the album itself; Slam for one. It's hella catchy, but doesn't get old quickly.
I think the new album is kind of boring; it's Pendulum trying to play 5 year old Chemical Brothers B-sides, IMO.
