View Full Version : MX's Favourite 52 Films! Round 1: Poll A

Violent_Bill

Okay, messed up that last one. Anyway it begins. The 5 films with the most votes go through to the next round, vote for the ones you like best and feel deserve a place in your personal list of favourites. Probably recommended you don't vote for more than five but I can't really make you.
Poll will remain open for four days from now (Monday).
Go to it.

Man I wish this poll came out later, I'm going to see Good Bad and Ugly this week.

Out of this I chose

Requiem for a Dream
Matrix
Sin City

Only ones I could vote for were The Matrix, Hot Fuzz, and Sin City. In all fairness, I haven't seeen GB&U, or Annie Hall.

Sin City & Star Wars get my vote. The former because it really, for me, bridged the gap between animation and cinema in a really nice way, and the latter because it reminds me of many times back at my parents, nostalgia nostalgia..

Most of these movies are piss poor. Seriously, Hot Fuzz?

Gotta give it up to Return of the Jedi. It taught me about life, and forest moons.

Not the best Star Wars film but it was pretty ****in sick.

It'd be the best if it had a rancor in it.

Ummm....yeah, didn't it?

I don't know, Return of the Jedi has always been my favorite but I watched it recently and now I kinda understand why people hate the Ewok battle so much. It took me until 21 to realize it.

The space battle is probably the best space battle of all time, both model and CGI

I decided to just vote for Annie Hall & The Matrix. I liked a couple of the others but they're really not favourites.

Edit: In retrospect should have voted for Return of the Jedi too. Remembered how cool those motorcycle like things were.

Superbad
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Clerks better than Annie Hall? Clerks 1 sucked

Return was very good - I just couldn't pick for it over the other three I picked. I haven't seen a few of those, but I will say the current top three is a little ridiculous...

+Annie Hall won't make it. it's old and it lacks violence so most of MX hasn't seen it.

but what does it for me is that it's one of the first (that I can recall) mainstream movies that gave its audience something they didn't want (idk why, but I won't spoil it).

plus Allen, for all his obnoxiousness, just really nailed relationships on the head.

-The Matrix is a great movie, but it never seemed all that revolutionary to me, and Keanu Reeves has always been kind of a meh actor, IMO.

-Hot Fuzz, haven't seen it, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be on my Top 25 (even Shawn of the Dead wouldn't).

+Requiem, for all it's flaws, is one of the few movies I've ever seen to make my eyes water... Ellen Burstyn's monologue in particular.

+Return of the Jedi really needs no explanation.

+GB&E is just a timeless Spaghetti Western. like Return, it's the high mark of its respective trilogy.

-Eternal Sunshine, haven't seen the whole movie, unfortunately, so I really have nothing to say

-Clerks, good movie, but not Top 25 worthy.

-Sin City, see Clerks^

I guess I don't make such bad decisions high, afterall ^_^

I love Superbad to death, but it is most definitely not one of the greatest movies ever. I don't get why Hot Fuzz even made it into the conversation. Sin City, Requiem, and Clerks are. I meant to vote for the Matrix too, but I guess I clicked it twice or something.

Hot Fuzz >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Superbad.

Superbad I could call an understatement. And Clerks has that movie votes? I quit.

+Annie Hall won't make it. it's old and it lacks violence so most of MX hasn't seen it.

It's interesting because those who don't nominate always vote - adding to your excellent point. I love that movie

I can't help but find Woody Allen an intensely irritating person to watch on screen.

Joe
05-05-2008, 08:34 PM
There was nothing brilliant about Superbad.

I understand the Woody Allen comment - he's a very love or hate guy. When you love him, you really love him, and when you don't you don't. He's only been able to succeed because more people can stand his quirkiness than not.

And I don't understand the love for Return of the Jedi. It was the weakest of the original three.

Ok, I'm going to stop complaining. It's just a poll

Except how perfectly it captured male teenage stereotypes.

If you can't relate to the movie at all, you were never a teenager.

Except for the fact that it was similar to a good like 13 movies before it? All of which "perfectly" captured the same stereotypes? It was genius. Absolutely wonderful. Are all male teenagers so bad at getting alcohol? Guess you're right, I never was a teenager. :chug:

The only part remotely funny was the storyline with McLovin.

aren't you a film major?

Joe
05-05-2008, 08:58 PM
That has nothing to do with it. I love funny slapstick movies. Just about every one in the last 20 years (unless it stars Dane Cook) has been hysterical. I didn't find anything all that interesting about Superbad. It just didn't make me laugh. It's that simple.

Ok I'm done arguing about this. As I stated, it's just a poll.

I can't help but find Woody Allen an intensely irritating person to watch on screen.

That's at least partially on purpose. He likes catching his actors as they really are, with stutters and mess ups. I like it though.

And I agree Return of the Jedi was the weakest of the three, but that never stopped it from being my favorite.

Eternal Sunshine is probably my favorite but Requiem is the best. It just makes me so poopy feeling that i can't like it that much. Hot Fuzz, Clerk, and Superbad are all amazing as well so this list is to hard to really pick a winner.
