View Full Version : Kill switch on my Jazzmaster

I have a '62 Fender Jazzmaster reissue and I'd like to install a toggle switch on it to create a kill switch. The Jazzmaster already has two toggles, one down below like a Les Paul for tone settings, and one up above the strings to toggle between the pickups.
I can do the kill switch stuff with the toggle up top already, but the kind of toggle it is makes it somewhat difficult to do for extended periods of time and it can be pretty uncomfortable.

If you go to the big picture there you will see what I mean. It's a two way switch and I would like to replace it with one similar to the typical toggle down below. Is this an easy fix? I've never done any modding. I know a guy who would most likely do this but I'm wondering if this is something I can do myself.

i installed a killswitch on 2 of my guitars it's a pretty easy installation for me i just popped a knob off of my guitar and stuck the switch through the hole and stuck both wires to the output jack prongs and it works great
I wouldnt do a switch, i would do a circuit breaking touch pad thing. Like, wiring it so that when you touch the panel with the toggle switches, the circuit breaks.
I have no clue how to do that, but ive seen it.

My guitarist made his killswitch like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckdluY6j8Lc&feature=related

i think you could put a push push jack like the s1 switches. it would be a little less straightforward than a regular killswitch, but cool too.

howdy all, new here... but not new to wiring...
toggle switch is easy as pie. you can do it many ways.
assuming you use a two pole switch(if you use a 3pole just ignore one end/pole):
send the live wire off the jack to one peg and then go off the remaining peg to where ever the jack would have gone...
or go between the three way switch that all ready exists and the volume pot it is likely wired to... I'm not all that familiar with a jaguar wiring but usually the three way will be the last link between the pickups and the output jack.
easy button:
there are two wires going to the switch allready... just wire em to the new toggle
- it doesn't even matter if you get em wrong...
but I wouldn't recommend this: as a '62 fender-anything' has most value with wiring in tact... If you really want to do it I'd seriously consider buying a whole new replacement pick-gaurd/pickups/knobs and just cut the minimal wires to get the original out.
you will reduce it's value quite a bit by hacking it up.
cheers... feel free to throw q's my way
