had a big session today and we got three new tracks down, Elixir Fixer, Between Elements and Next (which we ran out of tape on, but couldn't be arsed to re record on a new tape)
Any honest opinions welcomed, infact it's what i want, otherwise I wouldn't have posted this thread.

Elixer Fixer
Some cool effects, remind me of the sounds on my old zoom pedals. It's a shame 'cause melodically it's pretty cool at times, though it's just a little out of time. Like the way you kinda start jamming near the end. The bass line is cool in some points though at other times it doesn't feel structured enough, and the overall sound can become a bit muddy
Between elements
Hey good chord change at start. like the 1 descending note you got on the guitar over the accompanying notes, though the riff gets a little repetetive after a while. the bass in the break is pretty cool there. Sounds like this song really needs a vocal line over it to keep it goin. However it's a lot tighter than elixer fixer, which is all good. Not sure if the harmonics work too well.
Next
Hmm.. the quality in this song is pretty poor unfortunately. The riff isn't too bad, just gets a bit repetetive on it's own. The bass is really cool however in that small part where it kinda changes. This song seriously needs vocals though because as an instrumental it's just too repetetive.
Anyways, it sounds like your stuff has some pottential, and there are some good ideas amongst it melodically. However, i think you need to structure your songs more and possibly get a vocalist (which i can see by reading your myspace you are trying to do) or add a lead guitar or something just to make the song sound more varied

I think its good, but you guys need lyrics, i don't think its substantial as instrumental music. other than that its good, the recording is iffy but thats ok everyone gets better equipment in time. I think elixir fixer was a little to effect driven but still my favorite.
maybe check out my stuff if you want.

Yeah. I guess I should have mentioned about the lack of a singer. We decided if we just did tracks that blatantly scream out for lyrics, a singer would eventually come along and be enticed to sing for us.
We also tried a second guitarist, but the problem is as a band we're all friends for years back, but another guitarist screwed up the dynamics.
Cheers for the advice btw. Also should note with elixir fixer, we got a perfect really tight recording. but the guitar lead was dodgy and it fell out, so we just did a slap dash job just to get it out of the way - we got tired of that song because we were working on it for like a month.

understandable, none of you guys should underestimate your ability to sing, anyone can sing, it just takes a bit of practice. hell, all my favorite singers couldn't 'sing'. i say one of you should give it a shot.

It's not so much the singing I'm very intimidated by, I think it's that none of us can really write songs. Which is pretty pathetic considering two of us have english A-levels. But yeah, I suppose we should give it a shot. I think we have a spare amp knocking around and could pick up an alright mic. The other problem is we only have a 4 track recorder, for which we have one input for bass, one for guitar and two for drum mics. Is there some sort of little trick for getting around this without comprimising the quality of the drums on tape?
Oh and singing and playing - how hard is it? I've tried it once and it's like rubbing your belly and patting your head.
Also only had time to listen to your bloody mary demo - it's really good, and you've only been playing for a few months? I'm really impressed.

hey, can't you like bounce all your stuff onto one track and then record onto the other tracks if you get what i'm saying. That's what i do when i run our of room. You can keep doing that (well a max of 8 times on my studio) then when your finished bounce it all onto one track ready to be put onto CD or your PC.
I usually find the quality doesn't decrease at all when doing this

Think you can elabourate, please? I don't really understand. It's like a 20 year old tape 4 track btw, so it can't do outstanding things.
