Okay, a while ago I saw Az Holl's bass, and I thought it was incredibly awesome (until he put the stickers on it). So I was thinking of buying a Fender Squire Affinity Series P Bass, and removing the finish, then re-staining it to look like Az's bass.

I have also been wanting a fretless, so I would also remove the frets. I have helped my friend remove the finish from his guitar, but I have not removed frets before. I was just wondering if you guys think this is a good idea and if you have any guides on how to de-fret effectively.

I really like working on projects like this, so I don't really want to buy a fretless.

Here is a guide I find that should help you out on defretting the bass.

That site is really doing it the hard way. For $10 you can get some fret pullers off of ebay. They're little clippers that are ground flush so you can get them under the fret. This is a good demonstration:

If it's a maple fretboard I think it's gonna be a bitch, but rosewood is really easy to work with.

I'll probably do this, but use a liquid filler instead. Thanks all.

well, you don't NEED to use the right tools (I've heard a flathead screwdriver and a soldering iron can do the job) but I was alot less worried when I was using a soldering iron and the specific tool to pull out frets. It went by hella fast ftw

stewmac.com is where i got the tool. Search Fret Puller or something
