Do you own any? If so what are your favourites.

I've listened to the Akira Yamaoka Silent Hill OST which is good and the Breath of Fire 2 one.

I own the complete Final Fantasy VII soundtrack and it's one straight from Japan. It gets frequent plays.

no you guys listen to music that was composed for the sole purpose of accompanying a video game you don't listen to music that was ever intended to stand alone

how does music being the soundtrack to a video game stop it being music?

It's still music, though.

Iscariot

ok sure it's music it's just nerdy and uninspiring music that serves no real purpose outside of a video game

I only like Fiery Habanero Doritos.

Sure it does.

Some of the songs have been played in concert halls in sold out shows. That's outside of video games.

Iscariot
04-24-2008, 04:17 PM
and where did these shows take place?

Mister_Che

Concert halls?

that's specific

though it's probably safer for your argument not to cite actual proof or venues or anything so it's cool

This is true for a good deal of it, granted. Still I believe there is music created specifically to accompany a video game that elevates itself outside of these constraints and is just as worthwhile in terms of music quality as any.

were any of these songs performed in a setting that wasn't a video game festival full of nose pickers or a foreign country like norway who will listen to anything with the occasional blast beats thrown in

Mister_Che
04-24-2008, 04:24 PM
They were stand-alone concerts for the music only, not accompanying conventions like E3 or anything. Both those tours were in the US.

and lol at blast beats

Iscariot

first video was posted by someone in norway

also irregardless of the fact that those weren't performed at a function like e3 they were still performed specifically for a gaming audience

Some people attend those shows because either they're fans of the symphony or they have season tickets to that particular venue.

Katamari Damacy has a great OST, I used to listen to it often.

Also, I love japanese composers, they make the coolest music today imo.
