this will be better than the one Dave did. 100 top movies of all time is a bad title though because then i feel obligated to include movies i haven't seen to add credibility. We aren't all film historians here.
but whatever not sure if i have 20 movies i like that much but i'll give it a shot.

123, there are plenty of films that I know to be good (supposedly...), but I have not seen. So, are we voting for our personal top 20 movies, or top 20 movies across a wide range of criteria?

Well your personal top 20 that you both seriously enjoy and feel have real cinematic worth.
Like I could also have included Troll 2 & Braindead in my favourites, but I don't neccesarily view them as being that well made.
Well rounded and complete are essential terms.

It's his most accomplished film artistically speaking. I have a deep love of the early Romantic period. Music most especially, but Art just as much, and the film feels like he has simply brought those paintings to life. The framing of the scenes, the periods of motionlessness, the lighting... Its just plain magical.
I said I can't choose the top three Kubrick Films, but I can easily choose which is #1 and that is certainly it.

Well, neither am I, and often times my tastes don't agree with what critics say. Many "critically aclaimed" films I find boring as hell sometimes (a recent example is The Savages, while it wasn't a boring movie, I just failed to see the appeal). The Godfather is apparently a must have on every list, even though I do honestly believe its a good film. As you can see on my list, I listed quite a few films that you would not normally find on a critic's list (Star Trek and Star Wars movies especially).

I still stand by Salo being a necessary evil. It certainly upshook some foundations for me and I would consider it well above the common exploitation film that glorifies sex & violence. It breaks desensitization, I swear, and for this, #14.

I'm glad to see that someone likes the two towers. No one I've ever met in real life thought it was the best one, in fact generally it's put forth as the worst. But seeing it at the movies was quite possibly the greatest cinematic experience of my life, the battle at helms deep is positively amazing, gives me serious shivers everytime I watch it. The tension and atmosphere was far better built than the battle that apparently really meant something in the third film.
Pop music sucks

Not only that, but considering mid-point films must set-up for the final third part, Two Towers did an exceptional job at that.

Gawd I can't wait to finish reading The Fellowship of the Ring. That's why I don't usually read that trilogy as often as the others I've read.
Because half of it is singing and walking in some old forest and o shi it's a gnome guy named Tom Bombadil and he's got a fatass horse and a hot daughter, so let's sing about eating and drinking while we're eating about singing. Or drinking to the thought of singing or eating. Or eating to the singing that's about eating or drinking.

I have to agree with Jared here, I really didn't like The Shining. One of the worst of Jack Nicholson and Stanley Kubrick.
It's hard to say one of Nicholson's worst, considering The Bucket List, Something's Gotta Give, and Anger Management.
And here's my Kubrick analogy. Take your favorite pizza from home. Favorite. It's the best there is. Now go to New York City. Now while at New York, the average is so much incredibly higher, yet you still have that favorite pizza place that nowhere in New York can beat. A slice of New York City pizza isn't ever bad, but it may not be the best of the City's or even your favorite.
Kubrick's average is so high, that even one of his worst movies is still quite amazing.

It's not so much that i enjoyed the output (i never warmed up to it, after all) but i've always liked the surrealism in Kubricks films and it was interesting at the very least to see King's story adapted in that manner.
