All the bands Streetlight mentioned are more associated with Electronica, bar the trance and drum n bass choices. Oh god i hate those genres. If you are talking traditional dance, atm House is the biggest [and certainly the best] movement to be out for ages. Check out -
MYNC Project + Dirty South - Everybody Freakin'
Kid Cudi - Day n Nite [Crookers Remix]
Spektrum - Kinda New [Dirty South Remix]
Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin
Diovanii - Feel The Party
Filthy Rich - Get Down With Me
Mark Knight + Dirty South - Black Spot On The Sun
The Presets - My People [D.I.M Remix] The drop in this tune is insane.
Justice - Phantom PT2 - [Soulwax Remix]
And some good minimal techno acts to check out -
Thrash Jelly
Max Cooper
Spamchop
Yes i am a DJ. I also find 'Cross' to be a terrible album, the remix's is where its at.
If you want any tracks just message me.

Darren Styles (hardcore and trance)
Mark Breeze (same)
Scott Brown (trance)
Dj Hixxy (happy hardcore and trance)
Eddie Halliwell (trance)
Alex K (House and techno)
DJ John Neal (House)
Dj Greenie (House)
I'm not too fond of many electronica artists as mentioned above as I think artists like Klaxons just dont make proper dance.
Justice are ok as are Simian Mobile Disco but I feel they make dance music for people who normally dont like or appreciate dance music.
But whatever

Happy Hardcore and Trance are usually the genre's liked by people who don't have knowledge of Dance IMO.

All Happy Hardcore is made by nine people sitting in a dark room with no windows high on every drug known to man, illuminated only by small neon lights on the roof. All of it.

depends really. If we're talking about people jizzin over Tiesto or the Children of the night song then for sure they have no real knowledge.
But out of the DJ's and acts that I listed can you really say I have no knowledge at all of Dance ?
Tiesto is the ultimate name for Myspace kids to drop to try to prove that they listen to more than just Franz Ferdinand.

See the only song they know by him is Adagio For Strings. I challenge kids by asking them if they've listened to much of his Just Be album and they look at me strange. One lad was a fan of his didnt even know he released any albums.

Storm - Time to Burn
Hybrid - Finished Symphony
Tomcraft - Loneliness
Gouryella - Gouryalla
Adam White/Andy Moor - The Whiteroom
PPK - Ressurection
Planet Perfecto - Bullet in the gun
Agnelli & Nelson - Hudson Street
Above & Beyond - Can't Sleep
Darude - Sandstorm
Milk Inc - Walk on Water
Dogzilla - Without you
Ferry Corsten - Punk
Delirium - Silence (airscape mix)
Okay those are a load of trance classics - essential listening for the the genre plus a couple of songs I like a lot.
But if you're looking for something more like Daft Punk, then you've got Justice (seems to be in with the indie scene), Simian Mobile Disco, (electro house)...if you don't listen to Prodigy then you should.
Then if want hardcore stuff (which you probably don't) then download the Clubland x-treme hardcore albums (Styles, Breeze, ultrabeat, hixxy, dougal & gammer) but hm it doesn't appeal to heaps.
I don't know much about mainstream dance, but the Clubland albums (not the hardcore ones) are worth taking a look at.
Also some of the suggestions in this thread are crap, js.

Who the **** cares, seriously? If people want to listen to happy hardcore and trance then let them. They're not pretending to know loads, they're just listening to music that they like, why have people a problem with that? I listen about 5 metal bands, woot, and some elitist would probably critisise my taste in metal.
Stop complaining about other people's tastes, or that you have an exlusive right more than others to listen to certain genres because you know more about it :/

I like some funky house and electro house every now and then when I get sick of Bouncy House.
Which aint that often actually
Can you explain Scouse House to me?
edit: and bassline house, actually. People are throwing those two phrases around a lot lately and I remain completely ignorant to what they mean.
Arucard
05-08-2008, 05:00 PM
Scouse house isn't technically house atall, its more hardstyle. Bassline house is literally what it says it is - you put a bassline bass track into a 130bpm song and make it less grimey. Lots of it going round today, check out the Time Waits For No One remix by the Gridlockd Boys for a great example of bassline house.
Unfortunatley, most of it is ****.

scouse house's most distinguishable feature is probably what many have labelled the 'donk' it comes in at around 30 seconds in this video http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ataghsDrAXc
thats a good example of scouse house and if the genre had an anthem it'd be that song
but yeah theres some good stuff out there with Dj Greenie and John Neal.
I'd say theres enough elements of House for Scouse to be classed as house music. But you are right there is a lot of prevelant Hardstlye influences.
I've been listening to a lot more ambient house lately its f'ucking great to chill out to after a few joints

Yeah i've been well into minimal techno at the moment - after a night out on the wire, its great to come down to.
If you like minimal techno, you might like micro-house. Isolee, Trentmoller, Isan, superpitcher etc.
Great chill out music.

Yeah i love Trentmoller, but i've never heard him called micro-house before.
He's not the best example of the genre, like you say he's more minimal techno. But there's some similarities; they're very similar genres.
Isolee are probably my favourites out of what I've listed/listened to.

Gave the new Pendulum album a propa listen today. Not impressed at all like. I really wanted some more stuff in the style of Tarantula and other more Drum n Bass stuff. Instead it's like generic stadium rock. Despite this I was in a club the other week and the Dj banged on Propane. Place went mental.
A good Drum n Bass artist on the other hand is Mc Eksman. Some of his stuff is on Youtube and it's ****ing great if you like a good mixture of DnB and Grime.
I also gave another listen to Justice as well. I just dont get the hype.
