hi everybody! i dont know if there has been a thread like this before but i have grown very fond of movie scores the past couple years. i much prefer soundtracks that are composed (not just a mix of popular radio songs). i normally wont buy a score unless i watch the movie first. in this thread we can discuss some of our fav scores (soundtracks) or recommend each other ones we like. heres a list of the scores that I own (and have downloaded) and it might not be the best list but i am hoping you guys can help me expand....

The Fountain (Clint Mansell feat Mogwai & the Kronos Quartet)
Pans Labyrinth (Javier Navarrete)
Requiem For A Dream (Clint Mansell feat the Kronos Quartet)
There Will Be Blood (Jonny Greenwood)
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (Nobuo Uematsu)
Sweeny Todd (Stephen Sondheim)
I Am Legend (James Newton Howard)
3:10 To Yuma (Marco Beltrami)
The Assassination of Jesse James (Nick Cave & Warren Ellis)
Children of Men (John Tavener)
The Departed (Howard Shore)

...so discuss and if you guys can, please say who composed the soundtrack

Children of Men and The Departed also have excellent song choices such as King Crimson and Pink Floyd respectively

bernard herrmann, just about anything he has done is gold. the taxi driver theme is probably my favourite

some OST's I listen to constantly -

Pink Flamingos - lots of great 60's stuff on here, I wrote a review if anyone is bored enough to read it http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?albumid=22713

El Topo - theres two OST's, the original which was actually a jam band rendition by Shades of Joy. The second was released in a Jodorawsky boxset, and I ****ing love it. A kind of a psychadelic/classical/jazz mashup, some of my favourite film music.

Fritz The Cat - Possibly my favourite OST ever, lots of superb jazz and lounge music on here. Very trippy and fun to listen to.

Logans Run - Jerry Goldsmith, lots of synthesiser action fused with classical. I think theres some ondes martenot/theramin in there as well, it has that old school sci-fi sound to it but its really good.

Beetlejuice - lots of good Danny Elfman action, and some Harry Belanfonte chucked in for good measure.

Other films I haven't listened to the OST's for (or have but which are really crappy for one reason or another) and appreciate nonetheless -

Koyaanisqatsi - Philip Glass, probably my first arthouse film. Minimalistic classical.

Midnight Cowboy - Love, love this one. So many good songs on the soundtrack, one of my favourite films.

2001: A Space Odyssey - Some of my favourite classical pieces.

Many more I am sure :)

I haven't heard a good score of any movie made in the past 10 years. I remember Gladiator had some cool parts, but that's really all I can think of.

Some of the early 90s stuff, like Last of the Mohicans, Gettysburg, and the Lion King had great scores.

How could I forget Koyaanisqatsi. Its simple whilst being huge at the same time.

Any thing by Moriconne is top notch for scores. Good, the Bad and the Ugly or Once Upon a Time in the West being his best.

For soundtrack (non-original)... Barry Lyndon and the Pianist both have superb classical selections. The former just cause it so perfectly fits the mood, and the latter cause I love Chopin.
Big Lewbowski and Trainspotting are good soundtracks as well.

Jon Brion's scores are always really good: Eternal Sunshine, Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia, I Heart Huckabees. American Beauty, Lost in Translation, There Will Be Blood, and 2001 all have great scores/soundtracks as well.

Any Sergio Leone/Ennio Morricone collaborations.

Watch The Proposition with Guy Pearce. Nick Cave did the score for it (and wrote the script), and he also did the score for Assassination Of Jesse James By The Cowerd Robert Ford.

The music in 28 Days/Weeks Later is so good. The climaxing of the music is heartwrenching.

i forgot to mention all of the scores that Tangerine Dream did, for example: The Sorcerer, Firestarter, Thief, Wavelength. Legend, Flashpoint, etc. i always have liked their soundtracks.
