My jamming bassist just bought this beast. Out of my own curiosity is it any good?

Cheers, Joel

Peavey TNT 1x15 is definitely a good practice amp!

i own one. it used to be my main amp, and it served its purpose well. Plenty of volume for practice and small gigs.

now, i've got a full stack ... but if i didn't, i'd get by with the TNT.

If by good you mean it'll outlive your grandchildren, then yes :thumb:

My bassist just said....

"Ask for suggestions on any great effects pedals for funk that isn't my multi effects."

and...

"try and find out if anyone knows where to buy one of the bass pedals that muse use"

well, according to wikipedia, chris (from muse) uses multiple distortion/overdrive pedals. one of them being the electro-harmonix big muff (not sure which model though).

a wah or bass synth pedal would be good for funk.

The big key to his sound is a Human Gear Animato. A lot of the recorded stuff though is actually him playing clean or distorted bass over a synthesizer.

Live, I believe he uses a Russian Big Muff and the HG Animato for fuzz, and an Akai Deep Impact for synth. Both the Animato and Akai are hard to come by and very pricey.

What is your bassist willing to spend for the pedal(s)?

I use a TNT, its really good for practicing and small gigs or medium gigs with PA. Decent but unexceptional tone with good tone controls, the limiter is pretty nice and its pretty much indestructible.

My only complaint is that the handle on the top is stupid, it should have handles on the sides and none on the top as moving it is a 2 man job. I actually removed the top handle as every time I turned my back when setting up/taking down for a gig some venue guy would be trying to haul it onto or off the stage on their own, now thats not an issue anymore and I can sit a 2x10 cab on the top.

yeah, i'd recommend installing wheels and side handles ... makes moving it much less of a bitch.

I actually play on that exact same amp at my drummer's house and for gigs, and I love it. Great tone control, good amount of power. And it was free because the old bassist in my band just kinda left it there. His loss :P

I hated mine. Too heavy for the meager amount of power and mediocre sound it provided.
