Anyone wanna give me the scoop on these basses. I've never actually played or heard one before but I've heard maby good things about them and a couple of bad things. I've heard the neck gets warped fairly easily due to the huge bridges these basses have. Also, I heard the electronics in them were poor. The good things I've heard is they're fairly cheap for how great they sound. And supposedly a huge bridge gives you a fatter tone. Any opinions?

meh, to me these basses are just a gimmick

however, like you i have never played one so they could be great but if you say you have heard they have poor electronics i dounbt they will have good tone

i reckon the bridge thing is rubbish, but ive read a few reviews and as far as i can gather they're just decent quality good sounding (and looking) basses

Can you explain that theory? That's complete nonsense, but I think the explanation will be humorous enough to brighten my day :p

In all seriousness though, I've played a couple Traben basses. They're nothing I would call spectacular, but they're not horrible either. I'd put them in the realm of most Dean's and Schecter's...

They are pretty average, versatile, relatively cheap, but would work well for the intermediate player with a $500-ish budget.

the bootzilla (not the start one which is a terrible copy) and the array lines don't look too bad, not as good as i remember them looking though.. i must have seen it in a dynamic pic or something

I think that if I had to play a Traben, I'd choose one of the Chaos series.

No, see. By asserting my e-superiority, I actually feel worse IRL because it makes me realize how much of a loser I am.

If you're in a band who are only concerned with maintaining a "none more metal" image, these are for you.

Otherwise they just look... well, cheap.

i dunno... the array five always looked like a really attractive bass to me... i can't figure it out... i think it would be cool if they made a sixer.

i'm pretty sure they stopped making the array five though.. last time i checked...

I have a discontinued Traben Torrent 5... it had the least "flamboyant" bridge they've offered. It's got some nice features for the $450 I payed. Especially compared to the other lefties available. It has a 5-piece neck, J/MM pickups, 3-band EQ, 24 frets, etc. It has the typical sound you get from mid-priced 5-stringers w/ 24 frets (they usually place the pickups closer towards the bridge, and a lot of the basses have a modern, focused sound).

If you're right handed, I bet you could find a better bass especially in the used market for the price range.

Trabens are tuff as nails... as long as you don't dig good tone.

I think that the wood and bridges on traben basses are on or above par with the more expensive basses that we all know and love.

There is an inverse relationship between the amount of metal on the bass and the actual quality of it.

From what I've read they're surprisingly supposed to sound pretty decent.

ITT Ben cares more about his gear than his music.

Let's face it, Spiff.

If you wrote music like mine, would you really care about it, either? :p

I just see it all the time, people care too much about their gear and focus on it much more than what they produce with it.

My friend just auditioned for a band, they talked about how they've got thousands of dollars worth of gear, all that stuff, but then they only had one song written and have been acting as a band for a year.

So I take it that reading that post, and the other posts I've made in the thread, you haven't understood that I was being (mostly) facetious?

I understand you, don't you worry, but so many who talk like that are totally serious.
