View Full Version : Whatever respect I had left for Dillinger Escape Plan is now completely gone

First they release Ire Works, then they charge $75 for tickets.

04-14-2008, 04:41 AM
75$?
team_racket
04-14-2008, 04:42 AM
Im not sure about the exact currency exchange rates, but thats pretty f'ucking expensive. They always have a front cover on kerrang magazine these days though so its not too much of a surprise. Who are they playing with?
br3ad_man
04-14-2008, 04:43 AM
Was expecting 50 max. They're playing with Coliseum
BuddyBigsby
04-14-2008, 05:14 AM
That doesn't sound right... they'd probably play for $15-$25USD here and the USD isn't far off from the AUD. Shows aren't normally that outrageous there are they?
I almost saw them for free last week at this fest but just left before them. I wonder if they're still nuts.
br3ad_man
04-14-2008, 05:28 AM
They're usually way more expensive here, but $75 is totally ridiculous even for here. Like, Converge was $30, Isis/These Arms Are Snakes was $40.
And yeah, $20 US would be $21.50 AU.
Neoteric
04-14-2008, 05:31 AM
Haha, when they came here they only charged £13.
But what the hell, do they expect anyone to pay $75?
BuddyBigsby
04-14-2008, 05:45 AM
Probably because it costs a billion dollars to fly into Australia and then you gotta fly most places, not drive. Niggaz gotta eat.
br3ad_man
04-14-2008, 06:14 AM
Meh. I mean, my friend just went to see Pennywise, Sum 41, Bowling For Soup and The Vandals at a way bigger venue for $60. **** bands, I know, but still.

Could be worse man.
State can confirm that cover-stars Muse will play a date in Marlay Park on August 13th. Tickets go on sale 9am this Saturday, April 19th priced €70.70. Kasabian will support.
****ing Kasabian?
i'm pretty sure the band wasn't sitting around in a circle smoking weed and someone went
"dude, we should totally charge like $75 for tickets... we'll make like a gazillion dollarss"
i'm pretty sure that it's not up to them
Let's Chop Cats!
04-14-2008, 09:49 AM
considering it costs like 2 grand to fly from USA to Aus per person, its sort of reasonable. but its enough to keep me from going. then there is getting merched printed/shipped, and shipping/renting equipment
Dave de Sylvia
04-14-2008, 09:54 AM
But how are they going to make that money back by charging $75 a ticket? I'm no expert on Australia, but I'm guessing their DEP fans are the same as everywhere else, e.g. punk-oriented and used to going to cheapish shows. I imagine they could probably sell tickets for half that price and get at least twice as many people in.
Let's Chop Cats!
04-14-2008, 10:00 AM
because odds are they won't ever be back to Australia before the band breaks up or whatever so I'd imagine most kids down here are starved for shows.
Dave de Sylvia
04-14-2008, 12:47 PM
oh true
santi3hg
04-14-2008, 01:40 PM
Their management worked it out if anything, they need to break even over there so oh well.
BuddyBigsby
04-14-2008, 04:43 PM
I'm sure they have a huge guarantee, on top of that factor in the absurd costs of traveling to and around Australia and it makes sense I guess.
br3ad_man
04-14-2008, 07:13 PM
It still doesn't really, when you consider that bands the size of Dillinger almost never charge this much. I know Isis aren't as big as Dillinger but when they came last year, they played the same venue and tickets were $40, AND they brought These Arms Are Snakes with them.
Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine and Atreyu are touring next month and I guess that they're more popular than DEP. Tickets to that are $65, and it's at far bigger venues.
However you look at it, the price is ridiculous.
Gnarmageddon
04-14-2008, 07:28 PM
Dudefest tickets are $40. 30+ bands.
Lol
F'uck DEP. Coliseum is still good.

I'm seeing Coliseum supporting Converge in July and I'm fairly certain that DEP are going to play this festival I'm going to. So yeah I'm seeing both .

They're great live but $75 is waaaaaaaay too much.
I think the most I've paid to see them was $15.
the price doesn't make any sense, I think its the same price as bad religion couple moths ago
I'll go to stiff little fingers instead, they still kick *** in my opinion

So ten this begs the question for me... how much about did those Off Minor shows run? And do any of you know about how much any of those Have Heart shows are costing?
Concubine
04-15-2008, 10:42 PM
Off Minor shows was $10 and $12
Have Heart show with Parkway Drive is about $30 i think

Crime In Stereo w/ Against Me is $40. Don't know if I wanna go now.
br3ad_man

I read something about Crime in Stereo doing their own shows or something. I'd definitely go to that but I don't really want to go to Against Me.

DEP is great and Ire Works is underrated IMO. I reckon they'll be awesome when I see them live. I know everyone loves Dimitri more than Greg but I think he does a standup job as vocalist. Ben Weinmann = sick as hell guitarist too. Plus, Gil is good, not as good as Pennie was but hey, when things change, bands also change.
I still have a lot of respect for DEP. They helped bring maths into metal, even though math metal is not a real genre imo.

everybody knows math metal is a joke term. Like nintendo-core but some peeps take it seriously and it used to be funny but know just plain annoying

I hate it when scene kids come up to me, knowing I'm an Architects fan, and start harking on about mathematical metal, with time signatures devised by throwing dice.
